It will be a custom video software setup, since I only
need to recognize 16 characters, and the video frames are
consistent from frame to frame.

The flashing problem - I am not sure.
See if you can get the shell --
Reboot the system - as its rebooting type "+++" . [This did not work with the CAS+]
If Datalight stays with the Hayes modem standard this could get you the shell ?

Thanks for saving me the trouble on those video files.
I learned something about Video Text Recognition
which seems to be more of an art than a science .

The usual UNIX xmodem commands are:
sx - xmodem send file
rx - xmodem receive file

Datalight ROMDOS manual uses TRANSFER
TRANSFER /S  -- send
TRANSFER /R  -- receive

On the shell try either:
C:\> sx /b C:\phoenix\install\devfiletree.zip
or
C:\> transfer /S C:\phoenix\install\devfiletree.zip

If this succeeds then on hyperterminal:
Transfer->Receive File->Place received file in the following folder  <= select the name of the file to save as
also set the protocol:
Transfer->Receive File->Using receiving protocol->Xmodem
Then hit the Receive button

copy /phoenix/install/TI-Nspire.tnc /phx/documents/examples/OS.tns
and transfer through USB :)

Try this:
As the system is rebooting enter "+++" and return
This is the Hayes modem control sequence to break into command mode , which
hopefully is the shell .
If this does'nt work I will work offline with you on this.
Before there was high speed Internet, there were the days of RS232 and modem commands.
There is a key sequence to break into x-modem file transfer , but its been a while since I have done this.
Look for "modem control sequences" online to learn more.

Try the key sequence to bring up the diags menu.
You indicated nothing happened  on another post, and you had to reboot.
Does this bring up the Datalight shell ?

I could port Ndless 1.1 to the production OS1.2 , if I knew there was an advantage to do so.
Such as :
1)Is the power bug present in OS1.2 ?

Ndless 1.2 has advantages:
1) More memory and less OS overhead for better performance to run games like nDoom,nTris,NES emulator,....
2) I would have to look into making an ndless_resources.tns file so that Ndless1.7/2.0 programs are portable to Ndless1.2
3) A simple and very stable installation.
4) Any other Bug fixes and upgrades from OS1.1

OS1.2 disadvantages:
1) No touchpad support
2) OS1.2 availability.

But having those wires hanging even when the adapter is not needed is annoying...
Its exactly why I want to keep the calculator portable.
I can connect it to other Nspires I have like a CAS+ , without having to solder more wires.
Finding a Wifi cradle online for parts is ideal for making an RS232 adapter - you already have a convenient
contact to the calculator. If the RS232 conversion circuit is already there , you need only solder
a cable with 3-4 wires with a DB9 on one end for the computer.

I used an Ndless program here.
I think there is a key combination to launch it, but haven't found it - there is FlashFX strings in the boot code.
I also could not find it on OS2 with a simple binary search to patch that small Ndless program.

EDIT: I will add its Goplat's , charming, impresssive 16 byte program posted on another forum. :)

I will see what I can do.....

The Datalight shell has utilities for dumping and flashing, but you have to go through RS232.
Start the shell on the emulator and execute the 2 commands:

The first one you can dump Nor/Nand
The second one read/write only the nand.
One more reason to build an RS232 adapter ???
Its possible to trace these utilities and Build Ndless programs from them and get around not using RS232  ;)

No, but I have collected pieces to make one.

The connector itself will have to be homemade -
  a trimmed perferated circuit board where the wires are fastened that make contact with the nspire contacts.
  Then a heavy duty rubber band straps it down to those contacts, and keeps the cover from sliding
  down at the same time. A solder contact seems too unreliable and can damage those contacts.

They probably flashed boot1 onto those calculators, and then boot2,diags, and the OS through RS232.

I haven't seen your algorithm for this, but this will improve your odds.
Include an ancient mathmetician's efficient algorithm for computers - Euclid !!!!
Use Euclid's gcd algorithm.

If your program looks like this:

 num = gcd(rannum,n) 
while(num  == 1 or num == n)   // break from loop if rannum a multiple of one of the primes ?
 print "Great !!!, factor found ", num
Then it would finish when it found a random number thats a multiple of one of its primes.
This is much better than finding one number by trial division.
Then your great grandchildren have a chance of factoring this.
Make sure you generate a 512 bit random number or greater if the number you are factoring is 1024.
