Site Feedback and Questions / Re: How to get animated Avatars
« on: November 30, 2010, 07:59:04 am »
For mine, I used The GIMP, I put each frame in a different layer, specially named them and exported as GIF. But I used a spritesheet (i.e. one image with all the frames in it, usually ripped from videogames) and not an AVI... Well for the AVI I think you could open it in The GIMP.

And is it a Caramelldansen?

I agree, but why you wouldn't simply send him an e-mail instead of searching him on Facebook? (Unless he no longer have his .edu address...)

Humour and Jokes / Re: If TI made a microwave...

71: You would also get DMCA notices for hosting microwave OSes.
72: TI would try to counter attempts to hack the microwave with new versions of the OS.

Hm, good idea, but I doubt it exists... I could work on it.

Miscellaneous / Re: [MERGED TOPICS] Version numbers/abcd/Completion %
« on: November 29, 2010, 12:36:51 am »
I usually start at 0.1 or 0.0.1 (the latter is usually for when I start and little code is wrote), I change the 3rd number for small bugfixes, the second when I have a signifiant amount of improvement. I switch to 1.0 when I feel the software is 100% complete, ready to be shipped in boxes if I were in a company who does that and I change the 1st number when I have a really major improvement or rewrote a lot, if not all the code.

Juju, I would be happy to have you on the team!  Unfortunately, Visual Studio 2008 is incompatible with 2010 project files.  I would recommend SharpDevelop 4.0+Tortoise SVN, which will work fine.
I could get Visual Studio 2010 from DreamSpark, but, unfortunately, my school deprecated the usage of Groupwise in favor of some email address-less internal messaging system thingy this year...

Yep, I would love to see a French version.

Also, in my humble opinion, it's always a better idea to use real, human translators than Google Translate.

Computer Usage and Setup Help / Re: Anti-Virus

I have Avast! as well and I think it does a good job.

Of course, a good way to not get viruses is to have a Mac or Linux machine, since 99.9% of the viruses are made for Windows (but I don't say 100% because a few Linux and Mac viruses exists as well and, IMHO, it's not advised to switch to Linux just because of that). But for the security consciencious, Avast! for Linux exists as well, it's useful for scanning your Windows partition when it's too screwed up to run a virus scan. There is also ClamAV for Linux, generally used to detect viruses in mail on a mail server.

You're in the same town as DJ, how nice!
Yep, I even met him one time, I think there's a topic about that somewhere.

I'd like to be in a school like that, but my parents say:

'You're a bright student, you shouldn't go to informatic, you'll be a doctor!!!'
Well, same for me. Or maybe I could be a doctor in computer science?

I'm in a CEGEP, some sort of college between high school and university here in Québec, they offers technical programs (like mine, Computer Science - Industrial) or preuniversity programs.

I could help as well, I have 2½ years of C# experience learnt at school and I own the complete edition of Visual Studio 2008.

919: You always type RAM in all-caps letters
RAM is an acronym and acronyms should always be written in all-caps.

927: Despite being in an environment where all the English grammar rules are facultative (especially on IRC and other IM), you manage to write in perfect English, without typos. You even correct the other's posts and edit your own posts to correct typos.

There is also GitHub, if you prefer using Git.
