Oh I didn't notice it was in the wrong sub-forum. I'll move it.

I like what Deep Thought changed there. I think it looks better along with centering body :D

Cool, thanks Deep Thought.

Also, I've been using webs.com for all of three days, and I have to admit I'm already sick of it -- the entire interface seems slow to me, and support is really bad.  Also, for some reason, it prefixes any Javascript I post with some bizarre addition of their own, which prevents my site from being 100% valid HTML (which irritates me).  I have suspicions that this might go away after seven days (I'm currently a 'provisional' user, so can't do much, which makes sense, I guess), but I'm not entirely certain.  Plus, I've always wanted to try PHP and other web programming languages, but webs.com doesn't allow that unless I pay.

So...
I found this: http://0000free.com/hosting.html hosting service, and I'm thinking of switching.  I think Scout already recommended it -- does anybody else here have experience with this host?

Edit: Or maybe this one? http://www.heliohost.org/home/.
Hmm, so many choices...

My website: Currently boring.

Projects:
Axe Interpreter
   > Core: Done
   > Memory: Need write code to add constants.
   > Graphics: Rewritten.  Needs to integrate sprites with constants.
   > IO: GetKey done.  Need to add mostly homescreen IO stuff.
Croquette:
   > Stomping bugs
   > Internet version: On hold until I can make my website less boring/broken.

Yeah, sadly free hosts, especially webs, are kinda crappy. Freehostia is better, but it's slow. I think they have lots of restrictions on what you can use. They probably blocked javascript and stuff. You could try the one Scout mentionned, but yeah, make sure to backup often, in case they pulled a Geocities or Jatol.

So far the only free hosts I ever used are Geocities, Earthforge, Freewebpage, United-TI, Lycos and Calcwebzine, but most are gone, no longer offer free hosting or they had terrible ads.

Nah, FreeHostia doesn't block JavaScript. Even if they did, JS is client scripting, so it wouldn't affect them in any way, so I don't see any reason they'd block it.

I think FH is actually a pretty good host for simpler sites. It even has some decent PHP and MySQL support. They don't accept .co.cc domains, though, so you'd have to settle with a SITE.freehostia.com subdomain.

Ah ok, that's good. I wonder why Webs screws up with JS code, though. <_< I bet they did that to make sure people won't block their ads.

Heh, probably. I haven't had problems with JS on Webs though. Maybe they fixed it recently.

Meh.

Found a better hosting service, actually added content to all my links, and made a slightly less-random post thingy on the main page.

http://www.multiscale.co.cc

The only interesting part I did was to figure out a way to expand things on this page by clicking on the title of the appropriate entry.  It doesn't work in IE, but it uses no Javascript ;D

Nice and the new host seems to load fine. What host did you use?

I used heliohost.org.
They had the most amount of features, and a decent support forum.

Sadly, almost just after I registered this Friday, their servers were hacked X.X
I get the feeling that it was a fluke, but I hope I haven't made a mistake...

It took a while to load for me actually, but then when loaded it runs just fine.

I like it how you centered the body and also using 'a tags' (index.html#link) for news (like the first post) :D

Ouch sorry to hear Michael. Sadly, that kind of free host is usually mismanaged. I remember Cemetech was on one of those before and they lost about 13000 posts. The posts are still kinda there, but half of the words are missing. In Omnimaga's case, the server was dropped in Dec 2004 while I had no Internet access and the person took months to buy a new one. I also remember other stories of hacking and taking ages to fix it.
