Well, we need to make sure it remains easy to get them in the future, though. If they ever get discontinued, maybe they'll be more expensive to find or produce.

Mini USB should live for a while, no worries. :) Cameras and many other USB devices use it still.

The other option we have is microUSB but I'm not sure if you can have microUSB be a host like you can with Mini-A USB ports.

Edit: A quick Wikipedia check says that MicroUSB can indeed be a host but cables that would allow such use are much harder to find.

Depends though. I still see quite a bit of MiniUSB plugs on the market. ;)

A regular USB port shouldn't add too much to the size, though, would it? It's a lot thinner than a TI-83 :P

The 84 has a Mini-AB port(It accepts A and B devices, A in Host mode, B in Slave mode.)

Yes, that's why we'll probably use an OTG port where both are acceptable.
