« on: July 08, 2009, 01:52:20 pm »
First how many people actually play DnD?  If no one plays obviously no one would care, but if some of you guys do...

Yes.  I was assuming anyone who plays would know that.  And that was kind've the point; too see who knows it etc.

Cooliojazz, calm down. No need to be an ass toward him just because he's confused

And Yeah Advanced Dungeon And Dragons. I never played these ones, but I know what they are, as I played a similar serie in french and read some novels based on DnD and LOTR before such as Dragon Lance series.

This was a book-based RPG... welll, A LOT of books. Actually, there was a story but instead of being narrated at the third person it was narrated at the second person to make you feel you're the book hero. Each paragraphs were numbered and at the end of most of them, it was like:

Quote
If you want to search the current area longer, go to 41. If you want to go East, go to 69. If you want to go West, go to 187. If you want to go North, go to 89. If you want to go back South, go to 100.

Every now and then you would encounter enemies. Battles were ran with dices (to calculate damage points, dodging/missing) and you wrote down your current HP and inventory on a sheet of paper. If you died, you had to restart the entire book from scratch.

There was the Advanced Dungeon And Dragons series in english and french. In french there was the "A Book Where YOU Are The Hero" series, which ran through the '80s and '90s and there were other similar series like Goosebump EXTRA where you didn't have items nor enemy encounters, which were meant more as humoristic games rather than paper-based RPGs. All these were pretty fun back in the days because they were much cheaper than video games, especially when bought used (I got 10 books for a quarter each 10 years ago). THey were very popular in hi school too, over here there was some sort of contests and clans during noon time. However, their popularity went down the years afterward because of increasing video game popularity, online mmorpgs and other online gaming.

Back in the '90s I used to draw weird and crappy comics. In 2000 and 2001 I drew two comic books by hand in color that played like the old game books but more complex. They didn't made much sense sometimes but I think if I had the patience to scan all 190 pages I could maybe make some sort of PC point-and-click RPG with them. It would look quite crappy, though, compared to some stuff I saw on Deviantart and mangas/anime.

I also believe there were DnD games on the NES in the '80s. I also think there was a movie in 2000 but it wasn't that great, from what I remember

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to sound that way.  Yeah i've seen those books, but I'm talking about straight up Dungeons and Dragons, with DM's, character sheets, and people greater than one.

Dungeon Master.  Controls the game. makes the game.  Is in charge of everything but the players actions.

I have played in a number of 3.5 campaigns and I tried running one once (which was er...I don't think I speak on it).  I tend to be a utilty/controller build wizard with minimall buffing/debuffing but lots of spell to deal area damage/effects, teleportation, etc and lots of exploitable spells like combining shape stone with wall of stone, or explosive runes with dispell magic (which will set the explosive runes off).
I'm like a woot burger with awesome fries

I've heard of it, but never played it before.  I looked it up though and it seems like it could be interesting.

On a backup redemption ticket:
"I prepared explosive runes earlier this morn..." *BOOM*

Nah. I've heard loads about it, and I've sat in on a game once, but never have I played it. I was rather interested in it, and my contact for the Lost Legends II project seems to play it.
