The demo already has downloads. I doubt they'll do a real cartridge release, and as such they'll get much less notice.

Atari ROMs really just ROM chips, iirc. That means it wouldn't be too bad to make one yourself using an appropriate EEPROM. Ask Keoni. He already made a programmable Atari cart.

Well, since it's from AtariAges I wouldn't be surprised if they did, considering they already did it with Halo and Princess Rescue. However, they usually do a limited run at first then later they do it on demand.

It's pretty silly with big companies sending out a C&D on fan games made for hardware that's like 30+ years old... I mean, it's not like it's going to hurt them. XD

True. That said, for the Princess Rescue game, the major issue I think was that AtariAges were making money off the game (even if it was to cover cartridge production costs, Nintendo has no proof) and I heard that Nintendo are really copyright not(C) when it comes to their music, and Princess Rescue almost had an identical replica of the SMB1 theme.

I bet that if the game was released with different music and recolored Mario sprite, they would not have gotten any problem, since Nintendo would have gotten no proof from the graphics that it's meant to be a Mario game.

Still, it's insane that companies would care this much about fan games made for such old console. It reminds me when Parker Brothers sent a cease and desist letter to the guy who made Monopoly for the TI-83 in 1998 (although that was resolved I think) or Golden sun in 2005.

I'm fairly sure that a small name change is enough to get it classified as a "parody" protecting it under the fair use act.

Well, the game was actually called Princess Rescue, not Super Mario in the first place, yet that still didn't stop Nintendo from taking the game down.
