Unity Web player
« on: January 16, 2011, 10:01:26 pm »
Hey, there's a new web player out that makes some really good games. it makes games in 3d, and does em well. This one is my fav, a basic clone of Minecraft, but minus as much cool stuff.

http://www.kongregate.com/games/M2Hgames/cubelands

You have to download the player.
Output(1,1,"By the pricking of my thumb"
Txt(1,1, "Something wicked this way comes."

It's not really new. It's been out for a while, just not mainstream.

Hmm I haven't heard about that one. I might give it a try eventually.

I started developing with it (then removed it to save space on my computer) It seems pretty easy to use, and powerful.

Nice. If it's a bit easier to use than Game Maker I might give it a try.

What's wrong with GM? I think it's pretty easy to use. Having it not be OOP is a little weird, but oh well.

Played a Unity game called BeGone. Its a CoD-ish game. It takes a pretty decent computer to play it tho. Just search BeGone on kongregate.
You only get one gun tho, and it kicks like crazy. Graphics are nice though.

Tilemaps seemed to be a PITA to make compared to RPG Maker. In RPG Maker the tilemapper is pretty much done for you. All you need to do is drawing the map. In GM, you have to write the scrolling routines, otherwise you're stuck scrolling about 9000 tiles around. I also never figured out how to make games full screen by changing the monitor resolution.

What version of GM are you using, because I don't know when they added views.

Yeah this is what I mean. I never could figure out how to scroll, though. However just understand that if something is easy for you it doesn't mean it's as easy for everyone else. Note that I used Game Maker 5 or 6, I think. I don't even remember the site looking like this back then.

Reminds me of my friend.

You mean your friend said the same thing or do you mean he does that? ???

As for GM5/6 I heard about it when I visited a Metroid Fan game site back in 2005. Some cool stuff was made in GM there, but the site got hacked every 6 month and everything was deleted all the time...
