Installing Ti basic progs, on the nspire in 84 mode
« on: June 11, 2010, 09:30:18 pm »
Ok, my first question!

I have been using the ti computer link software to add programs to the nspire. That works perfectly.

Today I got my 84+SE keypad for the nspire.
I downloaded the TI connect software and installed a couple of flash applications from ticalcs archive.
I can install flash application without a probelm but when I try to install a ti basic program it says unable to communicate with calculator?

Anyone have a similiar problem? Just a newbie question what is the difference between a flash app and a tibasic program?

Thanks

Which version of Link Software and which version of Nspire OS?
You could try TILP.

I think if your Nspire has OS 1.1, you cannot use TI-Connect, because it will detect your calculator as a TI-89 Titanium. I am not sure if TiLP works.
In case you are wondering where I went, I left Omni back in 2015 to form CodeWalrus due to various reasons explained back then, but I stopped calc dev in 2016 and am now mostly active on the CW Discord server at https://discord.gg/cuZcfcF

Flash apps are always stored in ARC, even when run. Programs (including BASIC ones) can be stored in ARC, but they have to be put in RAM when you wan to run them. Also, apps cannot be edited, whereas BASIC programs can be.

As to your linking problem... I have no idea. Since TI-Connect correctly recognizes it as a 84+SE, my only guess is that your calc may have powered down when you were trying to send it your BASIC programs. To be sure, next time you try sending the programs, check that there is a blinking cursor on the calc's screen. If there isn't one, press the On button to turn the calc on. Sometimes it won't work when plugged in to USB, so if it does't turn on, unplug it, turn it on, and then reconnect it.

Yes, I guess I will have to give tilp a shot, I only have access to my windows computer at the moment which spits out an error message every time I run it so I'll have to wait a day untill I get back home to linux.

To answer a couple of qustions, My TI has 2.45MP (84 mode), and 2.0 (nspire mode) and TI connect is V 1.6.0

Thanks for your quick response, I'll give tilp a try in the next day or so.

Cheers

glad to hear!

There really needs more cross platform compatibility between OSes for TI softwares. Hopefully maybe some TILP updates will come soon
