Former atheist, now a Christian.

I used to drink, smoke, chew tobacco, and anything else bad for you... I probably did it. Jesus has changed my life for the better. I wonder if I would still be here today if it was not for the grace of God.

I hope that I am not judged for that... I hope nobody is judged for what they believe.

And... I hope this thread does not get out of hand.

Now everybody get back to coding. :woot:

everyone has the right to believe in any god, or not at all. Of course ppl are entitled to their opinions but as long as it doesn't offend anyone

anyway if this topic would get out of hand I know what to do :laugh:

I think we are capable of keeping this thread civilized.

And no, I haven't met any personally, though my grandpa died, I know he is still around, watching.

When he visited, he always brought his own coffee, with special stuff in it that gave it a particular flavor. He also always took his trash with him, he never left it here. Every now and then, I catch a hint of that coffee and his presence. Whether you believe in them or not, spirits are real. THAT has been proven.

wow, that is the exact opposite of me...I used to cut (mutulation), drink, ect.

Most notably, I am not as afraid of dying since I became aethist. You won't exist to know your dead, so it realy won't matter by the time it happens. It being that simple, you don't have to worry about "what if I am wrong and I wasted my life" and all that stuff.

And spirits are...well, I would say I am not so sure they don't exist as my old house had some weird stuff happen (it was haunted me and my sister think) but wether that is godly or not is a totaly diffrent question...

Wait, how does the idea of ghosts fit in with Christian mythology? I thought you just go to heaven, hell or purgatory.
@necro: that's interesting that your fear of death has gone since bceoming atheist. I became much more afraid of death when I finally admitted to myself that, in all likelihood, that was it. It's not an idea humans like to think about... and therefore were so egocentric that we made up religion to convince ourselves it wasn't that way.

well there was the fact in the past ppl were afraid of going to hell if they did bad things or similar stuff, so I guess its a bit because of that

About the death thing...

I feel the main reason people fear death is because our mind can't understand not being able to open our eyes, move our bodies, etc.

As it has been said, humans fear things they don't understand, and death is one thing we don't completely comprehend...

that is the whole thing thougj, as an committed aethiest, I know I am just plain and simply going to die. That is that, no hell, no heavon, just infinity. In having something I could so thouroughly believe, death became a non-factor of life and I don't think about it.

It was like this when I was christian:
will heaven be nice, will I go to hell, what if death is the end, what if hindu's were right, what about muslims...question after question to dwell and worry about

Now:
I die, that is that. No pain, no question, nothing but an ending...and nothing to do about it either...so who cares, live what time you have

Wouldn't it be a tragedy if it was true (heaven), and some people did not believe? I would not want to go to the other place of eternal torment.

But how do you know that what you bevlieve is the right one though? Maybe the Hindu are right and we're just born again. There are more than enough Christian divisions, all saying that they're right. What puts one over the other?
