What about Ububtu? I remember back in the days it seemed like the distro of choice for newbies according to many people I talked to then, but eventually something happened that caused people to hate it.

Not counting obseleteness, I especially appreciate Windows 3.1, 2000 Professional, XP, and 7.  3.1 on anything 80208 to 486, 2000 on Pentium to Pentium III, XP on Pentium 4 or AMD Athlon, and 7 on anything else newer than Pentium 4. I think 10 has great hope though. Vista I really liked but paled compared to 7, same for 98 to 2K Pro and 8 to 10.

Linux I'm still avoiding so far, but I did enjoy a little stint with Archlinux on my netbook, more so than Ubuntu for example. It was ridiculously lightweight; if I had a less powerful netbook I'd definitely give it a fair try, but as it stands it runs Windows 7 Pro with ease.
You should know, I am a Christian.

I still see Ubuntu around a fair bit. It doesn't show up here much because almost everyone's advanced to where it's more of an encumbrance than a boost.

I stopped using Ubuntu around 2011, around when GNOME 3 released (which everyone hated) and Ubuntu intended to replace it with Unity (which everyone also hated even more for some reason). Ubuntu was also beginning to go more commercial, all of those things caused the downfall of Ubuntu. Linux Mint, an Ubuntu fork, went with a GNOME 2 fork, along with another desktop environment that isn't GNOME or KDE or something. Which is nice, I guess.

Ubuntu is still one of the giants, it's still popular, but it's no longer The Thing(tm) as other distros rose to be equally popular.
