Downgrade your TI-Nspire from an Arduino Uno!
« on: October 23, 2011, 04:12:26 pm »
If you do not have a RS232 interface to downgrade your TI-Nspire, it is also possible to use an Arduino Uno to do so!

In fact, the Arduino Uno includes a TTL/RS232 converter and you will get the system messages in the same manner. Basically, with an Arduino Uno you can do what you could do with just the RS232 interface: Connected to the TI-Nspire dock port, you can update or repair Boot2, do the same with the Diagnostic software, install an OS (disabled functionality on the TI-Nspire CX) or launch an OS without installing it (also disabled on the CX).

However, the advantage of having an arduino is that it also allows doing a lot of other unrelated things as well, such as connecting your TI-83 Plus on Global CALCnet, which came out last Winter.

Cool. I have the Arduino Uno, now I need the TI-Nspire...

Also the Arduino Uno is fairly cheap, I got mine for $28. So it's rather easy to get one.

Remember the day the walrus started to fly...

I finally cleared my sig after 4 years you're happy now?

As a side note we really have to carry a pic with us to remember where exactly must we connect the wires in the connector, rigth? I mean there dock is so large lol XD

By the way is the Arduino Uno the standard one or is there an Arduino? I'm wondering since most people who got one to use CALCnet probably got the cheapest possible version, and I wondered if the cheapest one included the RS232 conversion?

Just look at longuest pins. Those longuest pins are GND. Take the one at the extreme left. Count one - Tx-, count one more - Rx - :D

I use the Arduino Uno which is a famous model to begin with multiple digital and analog inputs and outputs. It can be used for many many things :o

Ah ok, I guess I'll take a look at my CX connector.

And I see. I just wondered if there was an Arduino with absolutely no name after it, like "Uno" or if the Uno was the most basic model. I was asking since I think most people here got the most basic model and I worried it lacked the RS232 stuff.

'Uno' is the newest model, you can get more info on http://arduino.cc/. You can see all the versions here.

Well, that's bad news for me, because I don't have one...I'm not old enough to have a credit card or debit card. So I am going to have to wait until ndless 3.0 comes out.
I wish that all calculator hardware didn't cost money...I wish that I new someone who was a nspire fanatic like me. Unfortunately, the only people I do know that are, are in the online calc community.
I do know people who have nspires, but they are always getting mad at me because I am obsessed with mine. Those people are my teachers, and my friends.

I know right. Some people (especially teachers) can't cope with those special obsessions like some of us have and most of the time, you can't find anyone sharing your interests in your entourage. Kinda why I love Internet.

yeah the internet is very nice for that. Im the only person I know who can program(well enough to make a game through a nonscripting program) or make things for a calc. Ive been asked many times at my school to program a factoring program on classmates calcs
I currently don't do much, but I am a developer for a game you should totally try out called AssaultCube Reloaded download here https://assaultcuber.codeplex.com/
