LuaFX arrives on the FX-9860G
« on: March 05, 2012, 08:33:34 pm »
LuaFX for the long-discontinued Algebra FX Casio calculator series has finally been ported to the FX-9860G series too! Not only this should hopefully increase its audience, as the FX-9860G is still in production and is owned by various community members, but this opens the doors for a Casio PRIZM port as well, since newer Casio FX-9860G calculators use the same kind of processor as the newer color calculator.

Also, since the TI-Nspire CX already supports Lua, those who also own a Casio calculator might see their lives made easier if they want to port their game to Casio calcs too, assuming they use Lua.

It can be downloaded here!

Lua is a programming language, like c or c++. I learned lua, but I am not particularly good at it. You can program games, apps, and even program programmers that let you program on your calc. Like oclua, which lets you program lua scripts on the TI-Nspire. Lua only uses 2D graphics, unless a 3D engine is made, like Chocksta's Tiny3D. So, it is another way to allow you to play games and use apps on your calc.

I wonder if this Donkey Kong clone is any good? It has awesome graphics for sure but I'm curious if it's even close to playable or not...

I have always wanted a FX-9860, even when the Prizm came out. But I have a CFX-9850GB+ and I'd doubt that LuaFX would work on that then. But anyway that's great for both TI-nspire and 9860 users. TI-nspire users can port their games to Casio calcs and vice versa.

Hmm actually I wonder about attempts to port TI-nspire Lua games to Casio 9860. The screen resolution is entirely different, it wouldn't be as simple as copying the code, adjustments would have to be made.

And linever, welcome to Omnimaga! Please introduce yourself in the Introduce Yourself board: http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?board=10.0

Well the thing, again, is that the Nspire Lua implementation made by TI is event-driven, and this whole structure would have to be ported over the prizm. It's definitely doable, but would take quite a while to make it act like on the Nspire...
