Magic Hardcore song wins CoLD SToRAGE's TIMGUL Christmas contest
« on: December 21, 2009, 05:53:15 pm »
It has been a long while since we posted music news over here, trying to focus mostly on calculator and  website-related stuff lately and due to the fewer amount of music released over here, but a recent song called Magic Hardcore that was posted here two months ago was submitted to CoLD SToRAGE's TIMGUL Christmas Competition recently, along with several other songs, which can all be listened at timgulxmas2009.bandcamp.com, without having to login. For this competition, the only music creation softwares allowed were MUSIC, MUSIC 2000, MTV Music Generator, MTV Music Generator 2, Pocket Music (GBC/GBA), Music 2002 Club Edition, Music 3000 and Funkmaster Flex's Digital Hitz Factory. All these softwares were created by CoLD SToRAGE himself, who worked for Jester Interactive from 1998 to 2003, which is the reason why MTV Music Generator 3 was not allowed.

Due to fierce competition in terms of song quality, judging took a long while after competition ended, but it finally was decided that Magic Hardcore was the winner, followed by Smoothy, by Master Dutch. In addition to the first and second place prizes, all other participants will receive a prize as well.

You deserved it Omni, well done and congratulations. It was a lot of fun being involved with TIMGUL again after so long.

Thanks guys. Also Nitacku if you do so, DON'T get MTVMG3. It sucks terribly x.x (It was not done by CoLD SToRAGE too, nor Jester Interactive). Most people just uses the MTVMG 1 or 2. There's also the PAL Music 1, which has every sample from MTVMG1, but I hate the controls and you only have 16 sound channels instead of 24 :(

Yeah, the first MUSIC game is really just for collectors value these days although I do know of a few people who use that (and even Pocket MUSIC bizarrely.) Like DJ I've been using the MUSIC games for a long time now and I still can't grasp MTV Music Generator 2. Music 2000/MTV Music Generator is the one I'd suggest to get if you're starting out with the software, it's easy to use.

I don't mind MTVMG2 too much. In fact, I was afraid I would hate it with a passion due to vertical scrolling when I first tried it, but finally I liked it almost as much as M2000. The only reason why I like it less is because it takes like 50% longer to make a tune in it due to weird controls. Everything in M2000 is easier to access.

It's the controls that put me off, as I used M3K for a few years before getting MTVMG2 and they both share the vertical scrolling. It didn't really bother me too much. Irndemon did a few DnB tracks with it and the quality was very good, I'd like to make something with it someday.

Yeah they are kinda weird. In M2K it's so much faster to access stuff.

I used the first MTVMG for almost all my songs. During the second half of 2008, I tried various other versions as well as PC softwares like Sony ACID but then I returned to the first MTVMG for Playstation 1.

DJ, I've started to really enjoy you're music and I was wondering what you would reccommend as you're best 5?

I'd hate to be the one choosing on that question! I'm also curious Omni, but 'Trancing Through the 8-Bit Land' has to be there!

There seems to be something wrong with it's download button-I get to listen to it, but not download it.
