A less annoying anti-spambot sytem was implemented on Omnimaga forums, and required no javascript or code. Instead of forcing new members to wait hours or even days so an admin validate their accounts manually (since user e-mail validation doesn't work anymore), which can scare away new members, we now make members sign up normally, no validation required via e-mail nor admin validation. However, when logging in, the entire forum dissapears (except the old forum archive) and a new sub forum appear, in which is located a topic they must post twice in. They cannot e-mail, PM members or post new topics or view the rest of the board until they post twice in the topic, moving them to the regular member user group. We think this may be the less annoying anti-spambot measure possible on Invisionfree. If somehow bots still manage to get through this we will increase flood control for the new sub forum to one minute, require 4 posts instead of 2 or require the member to type a security code similar to captcha to enter the new sub forum to access the topic. Either way, new members will no longer have to open their e-mail client anymore to validate (which can be frustrating when their e-mail client or website is temporarly down or if they mistype their e-mail address when registering)

The onyl downside to this is that it will fill the board with hundred of unused accounts every week though, but the fact that accounts for validating usergroup doesn't show up in the member list it should not be a big problem really

Nah this is ok, it's because you alerady had at least 2 posts, so as soon as you posted it immediately moved you to the normal member group

Nice to see you found a simple plan for bot filtering, but I still want to know why we're getting so many bots now in the first place.

yeah even the admin validation didn't worked anymore, cuz people started making bot register with gmail and yahoo address and more realistic names so I had to make new member do a second step to validate (reply to an email with a password)

the day this happen I'm gonna lock down the forums from new members permanently O_O

and if a member somehow morphs into a bot then I'm gonna murder everyone I see around to avoid a resident evil like infection

no i leave it visible for admins only and managers so they can prune posts in the topic when there's a lot
