New Nspire Models: CX-C, CX-C CAS, and CM
« on: August 02, 2011, 04:41:39 pm »
While browsing TI's Chinese website earlier today, member northern_snow made in interesting discovery of three Chinese exclusive TI-Nspire models.

First, there are the CX-C and CX-C CAS models, which seem to be very similar to US models with the major exception of supporting the Chinese language and a dictionary, accessible with the key combo ctrl+8.

More interesting, however, is the discovery of the TI-Nspire CM-C model.  Besides the obvious differences in appearance (mini USB port on side, curved style, and white color), the CM model also has less memory, 32 MB of RAM as opposed to 64 MB on the normal CX models.

Read more about these new discoveries here!

They had better not be about to screw us over like they did with the TI-83/84+ (SE)s

They took off most of the RAM on the later models of the TI-83+ Family (not including the 83+ itself, of course).

Well, 32MB is the same as the normal TI-Nspire. 64MB was only on the CX models to begin with.

Lol, the chinese have less space because they don't use calculators the way they were meant to be used (gaming)

Okay, so maybe they do...

Are those sold cheaper in China? I know China still has poorer areas that are being developed and some companies sells them cheaper stuff to still make money there, so maybe that's why they removed some features?

Nonetheless, this is interesting. I wonder if Ndless will be possible on those...

The reduced memory is probably because of the massive Chinese font.

I think they already did, considering OS 3.0.

I think he meant more the hardware changes such as the removal of the extra 80 KB of RAM from newer 84+ calcs, which caused TI-Boy SE, MSD8x (to a certain extent) and Omnicalc RestoreMem function to not work on them. Those were not purposely to make those programs stop working, but rather to reduce productions costs.

The reduced memory is probably because of the massive Chinese font.

scratch that, OS 3.1 for Nspire CX already has several languages, including traditional and simplified.

I'm guessing it's that too, although TI probably still makes a huge profit margin on calcs, they have to introduce a new product if they want to sell for a cheaper price in a certain area, or everyone will buy it for the cheaper price. I also wonder how well these will be adopted in China. I think America is starting to overuse technology in schools (things like smartboards are fine and useful, but using a wireless network of calcs to hand out math problems to a class or to take a vote on something is just overkill.), but I don't know about China.
