Nspire OS decrypted

Goplat a member on UTI has sucessfully decrypted the Nspire OS, another step in hacking the Nspire has been taken. If the Nspire is sucessfully hacked then better games will be possible.

Yay!

I wonder if TI will freak out at this one too, like they did with the keys

Oh well, if that thing is not illegal, I guess the community will just need to fight the DMCA notices like they did with the keys.

Well I don't know if decrypting it is illegal, but tampering with the OS sure is

It's not like we can modify the OS though, without signing keys. Finding exploits to run our own code without installing a new OS probably isn't illegal whatsoever. :P

I think they want to find an exploit after seeing some OS code.

I am hoping this goes fast...

My only concern is TI starting to send DMCA notices for posting in public how to run these exploits. Even if this is not illegal, we never know how hard TI will try to make it harder for people to get access to them x.x Not everyone knows about torrenting, how to torrent and not everyone likes torrents.

Screw TI. We are allowed to run the code we want on the devices we own. Period.

(to be honest, the CPU type isn't even certain, so we're a long way gone)

There do seem to be some buffer overflow vulns in the document handler, (or at least CRASHHHH bugs) according to hackspire.

Very true. I just hope it remains easy to distribute the stuff people need to hack their Nspire, so we don't have to make them search 30 minutes on Google everytime they ask where do you find the tools to hack the Nspire. Kinda like ROMs.

I also hope TI won't release new OSes to counter these securities vulnerabilities, because while not upgrading to a newer OS will be the solution, what about people who will get a Nspire with the new OS installed and can't find an older OS anywhere?
