No, we are way more into making discoveries&creations, and making them public. Hence our news reputation.
But since it's the #1 FR website, it has to provide everything, including archives and online tools, etc.

Will gbSP-Nspire will take out the title?

@adriweb aah ok. As for ticalc.org I must admit though that most of its hardcore fans among the older community members are very "conservative" about the TI community. Back in the days, there was supposed to be only one major file archives and a few programming groups coming to ticalc.org to upload their work or discuss their projects in the upcoming programs section and the mailing list, or they all went on one programming group forum (MaxCoderz, for example, or United-TI later), and ticalc.org posted more news. And they wish the TI community should have remained centered all at one place: ticalc.org.

I remember when some people saw Cemetech and Omni had small archives and that Omni started posting more and more news that it sparked some outrage in an IRC channel, and Omnimaga was even called a walled garden (although I guess that was referring to the banning policies).

However, I am fine with a program not being nominated twice, regardless of how much improvement it gets. Otherwise Ndless would win every year, leaving no chance for other programs. In such case, the POTM would have to be brought back or there would need to be a 2nd place winner.

Ndless 3.1 was featured though. Maybe ticalc's policy is not to nominate a program that already won a poll.
According to Ryan on the discussion thread that's exactly why it wasn't on the poll—it was considered an update to a program that was already featured (and won POTY) in 2010.

On the other hand, TiEmu won POTY twice (first as TiEmu in 2005 and then as TiEmu3 in 2007), so there's some inconsistency here...
(Oh, BTW, mViewer and FormulaPro were uplaoded on ticalc)
I guess they didn't see that. Maybe they're more familiar with major TI-83 Plus-family releases.

If a program you think should be on the voting list doesn't get featured when it's submitted, you can always suggest it as a feature by emailing featprog@ticalc.org as said on this page.
EDIT : with this happening, how could we even consider "respecting" the POTY anymore ? It has strictly no value ! That's like making a website on my own, making a poll with only my programs and awading myself for being the best, everytime.
I think the point of POTY is the best program uploaded to ticalc.org in a year, with ticalc.org acting as a largely neutral service that simply holds files.

One of the big differences is that the English community and the French community have different philosophies on the archives' purpose. In the French community it's common for a major site like TI-Planet to add major completed community projects to its own archives automatically (as DJ_O pointed out). But in the English community something like that would be unacceptable, so ticalc.org strictly relies on user uploads for its files and featured programs. Not saying one system is better than the other—just felt that that's part of what's causing the problem here.

TiEmu won twice? O.O  I thought the 2nd nomination was actually removed halfway through voting, or maybe it was a different year. I know in one occasion a program was nominated a second time before being removed, and in one occasion, a program that shouldn't have won the POTM did (Wacky Fun Random Numbar Generator v1.000069), although that was fixed later.

It's still listed there for 2007.

Nevermind, it was actually FreeFlash for the 68K, which was accidentally nominated again in 2009 (then removed).

^This exactly. Also, many things tend to get overlooked. It's not like archivers can constantly go thorough every single program that gets submitted and test them. This is something they do voluntarily, and they have other things going on as well. As Deep Thought mention, you can also suggest a program if you think it is worthy of a feature. Ticalc has even encourage people to do so because as mentioned, they don't see everything. I certainly don't see POTY as useless. Perhaps somethings need to be improved, but we as a community need to decide what we can do to help improve it instead of just complaining about it. :)

Nspire voting is up!

Vote between gpSP-Nspire (gpSP Game Boy Advance emulator ported to the Nspire) and Multi(language)Periodic (periodic table)!
The Squares Do Not Die is there as well. My vote is probably going to gpSP though

If just 1 or 2 entries were missing, yes I'd do it - everybody can miss an important program as 2012 has been a very productive year.
When allmost all 2012 major programs are missing like here, it's a different thing...

Few featured programs, few votes... Does POTY still means anything?

It's not the first time that the results of a category carry reduced meaning due to an overly low number of contenders... In 2010, I got an unexpected POTY with tiosmod+amspatch, because it was the only featured program in that category; but other programs could have been featured and could have been more worthy of a POTY, for instance Benjamin Moody's titools.
However, I think that the '2012 results of the TI-Z80 category are reasonably valid, despite the fairly low number of votes, as there was a reasonably wide panel of contenders due to enough (retro-)features :)

Well even the Z80 category gets fewer and fewer votes. It's not due to the Z80 calcs getting less popular, but rather Ticalc.org getting less and less popular to participate to socially, although still popular for downloading programs. And yeah I did see the same problem in 2007 Lionel, where a lot of programs would get missed, such as an xLIB update and some great BASIC games. Late 2010 also had issues with Z80 stuff getting missed (and featured late). 2008, on the other hand, doesn't count, since the community was pretty much dead that year.

I know a few years ago some people on Omni were relunctant to post their games on ticalc.org due to the anti-Omnimaga bias from staff and his influence, slow news posting in 2007 and late 2010 and the site having an hard time transitioning towards web 2.0, but Ticalc.org had been the heart of the TI community for over a decade and the goal has always been that ticalc.org archives has every single existing TI program made by the TI community. If that changed in recent years, I guess we have to deal with it, since society elvolves over time, but it would be nice if at least some annual award for TI programmers still retained attention and if it had to be for example Omni starting some sort of POTM, then I worry that some voters would be biased and always vote for Omnimaga programs. :/

Omnimaga has a featured section since Early 2011 or so, but it's all manually updated rather than dynamically, so it's a major hassle to keep up to date. Since it features programs regardless of where they are uploaded (even attachments), this could probably be helpful, though.
