My thoughts:

TI's probably thinking that since not that many people know about the upcoming Casio Prizm, they might as well make a huge price jump to get what they can before they need to lower it so much. The Clickpad's probably gone forever. Not sure about the 89T, but it doesn't look good, especially considering the fact that sales have dropped a lot for the 68Ks.

Maybe the 83+ series is sold more nowadays so they increased prices, and the 89T isn't as popular and they dropped the prices to reduce their supply a bit. I remember a few years ago, the Nspire retailled at $159.99 over here, cheaper than a 84+SE, even with a 84+SE keypad included.

If the higher prices are just because TI sells stuff higher on their site, then it might not be something good for the 73 and 89T.

What would that leave? A keyless Nspire?

That is odd. My initial theory was people will go "hey look! The Nspire is as cheap as the 84 se, so why not get the nspire?" but then again, TI would want to get rid of their z80 stock now.

Should we care that much, though? once ndless 2 comes out, I see little reason to be attached to it. Heck, removable keypads means we could make our own!

The reason TI is jacking up the price of the 83's and 84's is because they want their new product, the Nspire, to sell more. By increasing the price of 83's and 84's, they are effectively trying to force people to buy Nspires by making the old and less capable models unreasonably expensive in comparison. By then having more sales of the Nspire, TI hopes to spread its influence and eventually have it replace 83's and 84's. At this point, when Nspires become the new standard for graphing calculators bought by every new high school student, they could even decide to increase the price more and get away with it.
