TI 89 or 89 Ti???
« on: November 25, 2007, 09:52:00 am »
Which is better, regular 89 or 89 Titanium? Here is the stuff I would like to do with it:

play games
Do most algebra II and Pre-Cal and Calculus (UIL competitions...)
program it in random ways with-out a computer (is this possible, I think it is but I'm not sure...)

Which is better based on price and the above factors?

The Titanium is better than the regular Ti-89.
It has much more archive memory, so you can fit more games and programs on it. :)smile.gif

It is also a bit faster. And it has a USB port

As for the algebra and calculus i don't think there is any difference between the two models...

My cousin has gotten 3 regular 89s from online stores/auctions/classifieds etc. for under $40.  My mom just ordered me one for Christmas yesterday (she doesn't know I know).  There are still plenty out there.
And there aren't any differences for mathematics that I know of.

if you can get it at a nice price of $40, then go for the regular.  otherwise, a new 89ti is pretty nice.

if you're lucky, you might be able to find an HW1 calc which can run pretty decent gs, otherwise, it's all the same.

Yea, not much difference except that the titanium one is more expensive and has a larger flash memory. That's about it. If money is your concern I'd go for the old TI-89, mine has served me just fine. You can program it on calc without any problems as well; as long as you don't mind using BASIC :)smile.gif.

Did you check her email and find the conformation email? I've done that before. %)rolleyes2.gif I was a devious little bast*** when I was younger. Come to think of it, I still am a little. Not as much now as then. :Ptongue.gif

I'd go for the 89Ti if money isn't an issue, but if you really want a good 68k calc, I'd go one step further and get a Voyage 200, it's great. Same archive and ram memory as the 89Ti, plus the bigger and better contrast/resolution of the screen. It runs between the 89 and 89ti in speed, so it's a great middle ground. I like the full keyboard, it makes programming in basic really fast.

Only problem with the Voyage 200 is you can't use it on Standardized Tests. So if you need this for school as well, and not just a fancy piece of electrical excitement, then I'd go with the 89Ti.

I was going to check my email but my mom had forgotten to log out of hers and at the top of the inbox it said "confirmation email" and had a little blurb about an 89.

Go for the regular TI-89.

Yeah... it doesn't have as much memory or the USB port like the "Titanic", but it is better looking and heck of a lot smaller. ;)wink.gif

@ Ranman heh titanic... lol, except this one hasn't sunk. I hear the TI edition is doing very well. Et all; I thought the original 89 and the titanium editon ran at the same speed(both 12MHz if i remember correctly) ? does the titanium have a slightly faster processor?

The 2nd edition of the Titanium (HW4) was rumored to have a slightly faster processor, but I don't know what happened much beyond that. I know the first Titanium and the 89 had the same processor.

The TI-89 HW1 runs at 10MHz while the HW2, HW3, & HW4 run at 12MHz. Although, as Rivereye stated, I have also heard a rumor that the HW4 runs at 14MHz -- but I thought that was dispelled.

What is the TI Edition? I haven't heard of that. :???:confus.gif
