Where to start?

OK, well one of the reasons I joined this forum is because I'm going to be needing a calculator for school, and I would rather get a slightly more expensive one that can play games than the minimum one that sucks. So first of all, what calculator should I buy, and do I need any accesories like a cable or anything?

The TI-84+ Silver Edition, the TI-89 Titanium, and the Voyage 200, are good options.  They all (as far as I know) come with a link cable and the necessary software to connect to the computer (unless you buy it from eBay or something like that).  The TI-86 also isn't a bad option, but it doesn't have Flash ROM or "archive".  Click http://www.ticalc.org/basics/calculators/ to find out more information about Texas Instruments graphing calculators.

i personally recommend the followings: TI-83+, TI-83+SE, TI-84+/SE, TI-89/t. Those are quite powerful and very popular. However the 83+ is slower than the 84+SE and it doesnt include the link cable with it (to get games from the PC) and it has less memory

OK I have no spending limit persay, which one is the best to get? That Voyage 200, or do lots of games not play on that?

Well. The Ti83+/84+ series are definitely not compatible with the Yoyage 200/TI89 series. The have different processors. If you are going for raw processing power, a 68k calc (Yoyage 200/TI89) should be your weapon of choice. But if you are looking for the larger variety in gaming, at least I think the z80 calcs (Ti83+/84+) still pwn.

I personally own a TI83+. Not out of choice, but cause my school uses them. I'm happy with it. :)smile.gif

I'd start with a TI83+/84+ series calc. Preferably the TI84+SE. It has the most memory of the z80 calcs.

yep we can program directly on it :Dbiggrin.gif , thats what I do. Keeep in mind you can program on the PC too though, and on calc you are limited to the build in language (TI-BASIC). On the PC you can do Assembly (altough its very very very hard) and if you use a TI-89 or a voyage 200 you can do C as well


anybody know if all TI-89 games works on voyage 200? I know there is much more games on TI-89 and some works on voyage 200 but I dunno if all works?

89 titanium games should work ok because both are HW3/4

the main concern is key presses and screen size, but I can't remember anything else.  I'll have to check

But besides, most of the featured games for 68k seem to have versions optimized individually for all 68k calcs.

My opinion is to get a V200, and then an 84+SE for school.  if you're in college, then V200 is probably enough.
