News / Re: Unlimited PMs for all
« on: February 12, 2011, 09:19:41 am »
If I remember, the limit used to be 250, then it got increased to 500, but I forgot to remove it after switching hosts. Although a lot of you probably didn't reach 500 yet, the limit was totally unnecessary now anyway.

By the way, to clarify, the 100 MB limit stated in this news was only on the MySQL database. 1and1 limits each MySQL databases to 100 MB. Diskspace-wise, we had 120 GB. Now we got 15 GB diskspace but the MySQL database can be as large as our diskspace allows.

Had Omnimaga remained on 1and1, we would have needed to split the forum in two databases when we reach 150000 posts or so. What this means is that the first 150000 posts would have become read-only and disassociated from member accounts.
Good change. I would not really like to have the old half (or halve?) of the forum read-only.

That subforum is huge with some much things related to Axe Parser that it had to be split sometime for the best of admins and users...

Good news! TI-France warned about potential prototypes on Ebay on their Facebook page. They recommend to not buy them (although unfortunately sometimes you can't get any proof that it's not one). They also state they cannot be upgraded. At least they did something good, for once, I guess. :P
Now, seems that they giving away some developer signed OS is not as a remote idea as I thought before.

Let's see. >_> But if they spied this topic, they will make sure to not reply to apcalc. joking a bit

Good luck DJ with your life. It was a very reasonable choice (from what you exposed in the topic) to make your life more stable.
But I am sure you will come back in better times. ;) And of course visits us at least once every weeks (or almost).

You have very nice persons in the staff, I am confident they will do a good work. I administrated some forums before and I wouldn't mind in Omnimaga if my time wasn't more divided than ever (and will go worse eventually -.-') and I if I could focus my interest in calculators rather than lots of different things. I am trying to start focusing on one thing at a time.

Glad to see this spark interest, I know I lurk between RevSoft and MaxCoderz a lot.
Me too as you could notice.

But there aren't any members there except staff (benryves and sometimes tr1pe1a) and lurkers like us. :(

News / Re: Axe Parser's 1st anniversary
« on: February 08, 2011, 12:29:23 pm »
Happy Birthday Axe Day! It was an outstanding first year for a calculator programming language. It will live for many more prosperous years.
It deserves a 1.0.0 version soon, don't you agree?

News / Re: CGPN: The Calculator Game Programming Newsletter
« on: February 08, 2011, 12:23:05 pm »
I only read it today. The newsletter is simple but very well done. Great work of the editors. It has links to to projects and everything.
You definitely should do it monthly if there are enough news. If not, do every 3 months.

I hope that it attracts users who signed on Omnimaga and left right after. The games and news were exciting IMHO, specially the Nspire part, I don't know what others think of it.

Edit: I almost forgot, I am very thankful because I can't keep track of all calculators projects and with the newsletters, I certainly won't miss the most important ones.

Port this to TI-84+SE. (kidding)  ;D

An amazing project that make calculators seem more close to computers than before.

Computer Usage and Setup Help / PC Software for controlling computer breaks
« on: February 04, 2011, 08:19:14 pm »
Finally after more than a year trying searches, waiting, being alert while surfing I found a little software pearl for helping me control my rests on computer.

The name is Workrave:
http://www.workrave.org/
Open source, free (of charge) and for Linux and Windows.

It is configurable and gives some statistics of your computer usage. Plus there is a portable version on http://portableapps.com/news/2011-02-03_-_workrave_portable_1.9.3_released, that was how I discovered it.
And the program description helped to unveil the right keywords on Google to search this kind of software. I had rough ideas for keywords but they never showed up what I was looking for.

It has all the options I really wanted and others I found really useful as well.

So now there isn't excuse for not taking a walk and rest your eyes. :P

Well done!
I am eager to know interesting finds in the boot code and who knows the OS if it is still there somewhere in the memory. If someone of the community get their hands in a prototype with its original working OS.

I became amused after seeing screenshot with "Using developer keys" on it.
No hell of a idea on how, in practical, to get an developer signed OS. Supposedly only TI staff have access to that and it would be really surprising to see them giving away that by mail.

I have come across those fonts before. I don't know but maybe it was suggested before on some TI forum or I just stumbled when surfing the Internet.

Last time I saw someone saving bricked calculators was Brandonw through a link port overflow exploit on TI-84+SE.

Finding an exploit in the usb transfer that makes you run some assembly code, maybe?
If it is a prototype maybe it can only accept OSes signed from the development team, it would be odd to allow all OS transfer to not try install anything. I bet it would be very interesting to know how that specific boot code validates the OS.
No one was able to read the memory of Nspire by hardware for some reason, it seems another dead end.

Truly a challenge for hackers.

I noted a mistake in your topic: "anterior" doesn't not exist in English, translation is prior or previous.
