News / Re: Contest
« on: April 30, 2009, 10:34:04 pm »
I originally posted this on TI-Freakware, but I would like Omnimaga members opinions as well. First I just asked in what range are the point values for each category? (0-10? 0-5? etc.)

Then this sentence came to my attention, "...judged by registered Omnimaga members through a closed poll.: This is all well and good, a community-driven poll, I have no problem with that. But I was wondering if anyone else saw it as being possibly problematic. For example, say 50 programs are submitted. Will every person that votes seriously go through and play all those games? It would appear to be a very big commitment. So if one doesn't run through and judge all programs, but still votes, isn't that a little bit biased?

My idea was to just have 2 or 3 trustworthy people, volunteers, (preferably noahboay and DJ_Omnimaga) go through and judge the programs, then submit the best 2 (given the cumulative score) to a closed poll for the community to vote. Or they could just pick the best 1, and label that the winner. In my honest opinion, that seems to be more fair and less biased.

Miscellaneous / Sort of Back, Not really though
« on: December 15, 2007, 03:30:00 pm »
No I didn't leave the TI community, I have been away for a while as some may have noticed. But I was away from the computer.

Currently I just got my Power Mac G5 working, and connected the internet once, but never again. And on my Windows PC it is very unrealiable. This is mainly due to our router, etc.

We tried tech support, and they didn't help at all, so we will have to wait for a site technician to come to our aid. Don't worry, nothing happened to me. I may been gone for another long period of time though. :(sad.gif

News / Ticalc.org: The end?
« on: November 29, 2007, 02:28:00 pm »
Eh, I think it is really hard for a site of ticalc.org's status to hire somebody. Unless you have a serious resume, not something thrown together.

I mean they don't know if the person really has the time, just wants to be part of ticalc.org to say they were part of it, or if they just want to mess with ticalc.org

There are a bunch of things that could go wrong when hiring people into something like that.

It would be cool if it was automated, but then the moderators wouldn't even be around to check what the bots updated every single day.

I think we should wait it out two more months or so before we say that ticalc.org is dead, I don't necessarily think it is yet. Try to be optimistic, I'm sure they will be fine.

Uhh I really don't get your questions?

It outputs to gen_text.txt. Maybe it just doesn't work on your computer. Are you using Vista?

Maybe you should try recompiling textcomp on your computer. The source is error free.

Hey I am willing to help with coding but if your looking for some more coders am am willing to chip in though I have only made one working program.

I'm sorry, but I read that three times, and I still have no idea what you are saying.

I'm saying I'm willing to help code. But I have only finished one other program.

sure, if you have a gmail account, I can add you to the project list.

although right now, most of the stuff is available in the SVN.  you can probably get busy by getting yourself familiar w/ everything.

I've been kinda busy irl so I haven't gotten much done except set up a lot of the gs code.

@Halifax and Spikeman: How about you guys?

Yeah, things have been hectic because of thanksgiving, but I think they will chill out this week a little bit, and then probably start up next week or so, since my brothers, and sister in-law are coming home. :)smile.gif (Which I can't wait for  :w00t:woot.gif )

Yeah, well that isn't exactly a good comparison since TI-BASIC goes through a lot more things than directly manipulating them.

Yes they are possible if you write your own routines to manipulate them.

long int = 32 bits
long long int = 64 bits

And it is not the fact that decimals are slow, it is the fact that they take a lot of memory.

Yes, you would have to use TI's API for decimals which are BCD. These things are quite memory consuming(9 bytes), so if there aren't that many decimal values, then I suppose we could do this.

Haha, I am trying to find it.

@ATG: Yeah, Quake 3 source has been out for a long time...and in fact it is laying on my hard drive. IIRC it was the last time that they used C before switching to full OOP C++.

Also IIRC the Doom 3 engine source code was supposed to be released. I wouldn't be too interested in that though since it has already been put into the shadows of much better engines.

Haha, yeah I noticed Liazon went to 1337. That's pretty sweet.

Yeah, I don't know it might be good for people learning C, or it might not. I know when I was learning that it wasn't very helpful at all since things are usually "complicated".

Hmm that is really cool. So this game is all formed around being dynamic? I like that idea.

Sweet, I want to see this. And yeah, I don't think anyone meant to say that this was going to be a raycasting engine.
