Site Feedback and Questions / Inconsistency with Posts per day.
« on: March 06, 2012, 06:48:16 am »
For a while I was trying to shake off the feeing that the new hosting move would cause some inconsistencies that had not been solved as of yet. But then I realised what was wrong. When the old members registered on the current site got a post count boost (from old posts), the registration date didn't change (I.e. from August 25 or later). So while posts from before August 25 were counted in post counts, this would give an abnormally high posts per day statistic in profiles as
posts per day = number of posts / number of days since registered (on new forum starting Aug 25 2008)
i.e.: DJ_O's profile http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1

Just bringing this up as something, though I doubt this could be fixed as all registration dates would be inconsistent too between old and new members.

Miscellaneous / What Does Your Voice Sound Like? (New Collection)
« on: March 06, 2012, 06:00:33 am »
Hello everyone,
I had thought of this idea for a while (and some of you may have too). I wondered what people's voices sounded like. So I wondered if we could start a collection of some sort. I know annoyingcalc has attempted this before in this topic: http://ourl.ca/12792 but here I would like to see something like this for each member who wishes to record his/her voice.

You don't have to record anything long but just follow the format I have outlined below. A bit of flexibility is allowed if something doesn't seem to fit. (Stuff in brackets) are optional.

Hi everyone, my name is [real name], also known as [insert username] on Omnimaga. (Where you live)(custom lines)

If you don't want to reveal your real name then use the following format (tweak it if you want to)

Hi everyone. (I wish not to reveal my real name). I am known as [insert username] on Omnimaga. (Where you live)(custom lines)

For custom lines you can say anything pretty much, something about yourself, about calcs, about your interests, but don't drag on too long. ;)

Sorry if not everyone has a microphone to record with. I realise this will not be possible for some people.
You can record with just Sound Recorder on Windows (also software on Linux and Mac)
Also try to save your recording as Voice_[insert username]

Also one important note: Personally you may think that you sound terrible on recording, but what we think our own voice sounds like when we talk is different to what everyone else hears. It can differ a lot or only a bit. You may be surprised when you play back the recording of your own voice.

Now without further ado, I present the recording of my own voice:

Other Calculators / The difference between a Port and a Clone
« on: March 02, 2012, 05:59:23 am »
Hi Everyone,
I was talking to jimbauwens before about ports and clones (it started with the some 3D with ndless topic), and we have come up and agreed on definitions of port and clone, in case if anyone’s confused.

A port is a program that you mainly base it on the source code of another program (you have access to the source code)
A Clone is based on the idea or concept and can be from different or same platforms.

From calc84maniac:
if you're not using any assets from the original, it's classified as a remake, not a port
I guess a clone is pretty much something that copies the gameplay of an existing game, and isn't by the same developer

I would like to see what everyone else thinks about this! ;)
Now, Discussion Time!

Site Feedback and Questions / Omnimaga SMF URL Syntax Guide

Omnimaga SMF URL Syntax Guide
Note: currently a work in progress and still missing lots of stuff. Also trying to make it neater and organised.

Omnimaga contains lots of links to many pages, but not all are easy to find. For convenience, sometimes it is quicker to type in the url than to click through several pages to find the link you're looking for. I have memorised some myself, and thought that this list might help you find the pages you find useful, or some hidden pages you hadn't seen before. In this way, you can navigate through Omnimaga faster!
In general, think of the Omnimaga URLs as a function and argument format, where http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php is the function, and ? separates the function from the arguments which follow.

Spoiler For Comprehensive List of Possible Omnimaga SMF URL Categories:
Incomplete list
Home Page: http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php
Base Url:     http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?[argument1];[argument2];[argument3]
board=xx.xx;
  board=1.0
  board=11.0
topic=xx.xx;
  board=1.0 Welcome to SMF!
action=ezportal;

General Syntax
http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?[argument1];[argument2];[argument3]
http://www.omnimaga.org/index.phpThe base url, leads to the home page
www.omnimaga.org/index.php?action=profile;u=3;sa=statPanelThe arguments are: [View Profile] [User #3 (Netham45)] [View Stats]. Each argument is separated by a semi-colon
Spoiler For Common Argument Orderings:
Bback soon

Board Arguments
board=[boardnumber].[boardpagenumber]
board=11.0The 11th board (News Board), you can change the board number (ID) manually to jump to another board.
board=11.300The number after the dot indicates which page of the board you want to view. Each page goes up in .50 increments, so 11.300 indicates the 7th page of the 11th board (News Board).
Spoiler For List of Major Boards:
Sorry please stay tuned. A list will be coming later.

Topic Arguments
topic=[topicnumber].[topicpagenumber]
topic=1453.0The Axe Parser Topic, you can change the topic number (ID) manually to jump to another topic. This can be useful for a thread you check on regularly, you can just type in the topic ID straight into the URL bar.
topic=1453.2130Similar to the board ID numbers but each page goes up in .15 increments, so 11.2130 indicates the 143rd page of the 1453rd Topic (Axe Parser Topic)
Spoiler For http://omniurl.tk URLs:
Posts are also shortened with an http://omniurl.tk url. This is indicated in OmnomIRC every time someone posts.
http://omniurl.tk/12772/233902
The first number is the topic number, the second number is the message number. It is as simple as that!

Action Arguments
action=[whatever action/feature]
action=downloadsActions can do many things and link to different pages
Spoiler For List of Actions:
action=ezportal
action=topicattach
action=markasread
action=post
action=articles
action=profile
Spoiler For sub arguments:
u=1 DJ_O's profile
   ;
   sa=statPanel
action=stats
action=help
;page=post

Sa arguments
sa=[whatever]
sa=page;p=5These two arguments must go together, otherwise it will give an error "No page selected!"

Miscellaneous / When Public Transport Fails/ Public Transit Rants
« on: February 28, 2012, 04:02:39 am »
Hi,

Almost forgot to mention the chaos I encountered this morning!
I live on the Gold Coast, in Queensland, Australia.
I went to my regular train station (Varsity Lakes train station) this morning on the way to go to school, and I noticed that there were a lot of people waiting outside at the entrance to the station. On arrival one of the people from my school said that all trains were cancelled for at least the next hour! Madness, at peak hour! Luckily I got my mum to drive me to school (I am old enough to get a driver's license and should have drove there myself), but for some other people, they had to wait for an hour and arrive at school late.

Later that day I checked the news online, that it was a powerline fault at Roma Street Station, one of the major stations in Brisbane, the capital of Queensland. Chaos reigned today from 4:30am from what I heard, but nothing could match peak hour with everyone just left with few options but to take buses or taxis or drive by car. Of course that meant lots of traffic.

The public transport system is quite underdone in Australia if you compare to other countries such as China, France, Japan and US, and Queensland isn't exactly the best in the country either. So today's event to me showed how much we need upgrades to public transport here, a subway would be nice (though that won't happen), and improvements are still a few years away.

Also btw, here is an image of Varsity Lakes Station: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/691/varsitylakesstationopenh.jpg/

See what you guys think,

Gaming Discussion / Adverputt
« on: February 25, 2012, 03:57:32 am »
BIG thanks to builderboy for introducing me to this game.

Hi everyone,
Today builderboy showed me the link to a really cool mini golf Flash game. What's different to most other flash golf games is that for each hole, there is a sponsor brand printed onto the surfaces of each hole, and also that all holes are viewable on screen and connect to each other. The graphics and design of the whole course is simplistic and modern.
There are 12 holes in total, and once I started playing I got hooked. Got Bogey*7 the first time, and have been improving since. Some holes are really innovative and have quirky designs for your golf ball to try and manoeuvre around into.
To play Adverputt just go to http://www.adverputt.com/

My best score currently is Kazooie or 10 under par.
I have smashed my personal record with a Thunderbird or 15 under par!!!
Post here your thoughts about the game, and what your best score is.

And big thanks again to Builderboy for showing me and others this great game.
Enjoy!

Site Feedback and Questions / Forum Time Zone/ Time Offset
« on: February 21, 2012, 08:17:05 am »
Hi everyone,

Today when I logged in I realised as I posted that the timestamps were off by an hour, an hour earlier than my GMT+10 (No DST) timezone. Then I just went to my forum profile settings. I had 14 entered in as my Time Offset, which I had set quite a while ago as the correct time. I pressed the auto-detect button and my suspicions were confirmed. It changed to 15. I wonder why this is so? Did something happen to the default forum time?

Gaming Discussion / Runescape gets new site design
« on: November 24, 2011, 08:08:23 pm »
I wonder if anyone has noticed the revamp that the runescape.com website has had recently. It's so much better things are more streamlined and the website is more stylish too. Also we had conflicting themes before in Highscores, and Exchange Databases but now it's all the same theme. A very good job by Jagex.

Site Feedback and Questions / Is this Normal for Omnimaga Stats?
« on: November 20, 2011, 05:21:52 pm »
I was wondering if stats like these is normal.
Apparently there are 15 more posts by DJ_O today than this week?
Does that mean some of today's posts are not from this week but some are?

General Calculator Help / TI-nspire Press-to-Test
« on: November 19, 2011, 01:38:46 am »
Hi everyone,
I go to an IB School, Queensland Academy for Health Sciences, Gold Coast, Australia.
As part of the official IB Business SL Anticipated Exams we had to sit on 17-18 Novemeber we had to put our TI-nspire into Press-to-Test. Prior to this I hadn't really known about PtT, just heard of it and it was quite interesting as I wouldn't be able to access my documents (for like cheating) during the exam. And as these were real exams being sent off around the world, strict regulations like these had to be enforced. After the exam we got a piece of paper stating how to exit PtT mode. It recommended that using another TI-nspire connected to my PtT nspire was the best way. But it's the weekend and I'd have to ask someone else to connect my nspire to. So I had to search myself a way to exit PtT using TI-nspire Computer Link found here: http://bit.ly/qJJZ5Z

Wonder if anyone else has used PtT or something?

Other Stuff
My original post in this thread can be viewed in the spoiler below:
Spoiler For original post:
Hi guys, I've been planning this for a while but now I'm finally ready for this discussion. We all love to listen to DJ_O's music. Its just a bit annoying for me personally when there are missing track numbers from several albums. So over the past few weeks I thought how the information for each song/album could be tidied up.
>>> To DJ_O: I know you've said that you don't plan to create any more albums for the time being, however it'd be nice to have complete existing albums.
So to tackle this I have made a spreadsheet containing the DJ_Omnimaga original songs (all 104 of them currently in the omnimaga downloads section) and using information from the Omnimaga downloads page, the zip files available at dj.omnimaga.org (100 original songs), and the Snake X DJ Music Torrent released last year but now disbanded, I have created a list that shows where the missing information is. I have also colour coded important modifications or comments that I made myself, but I can only go so far myself. So here we are for discussion, if anyone has information to give about DJ_O's phenomenal songs this is the place to give it.

>-> Anyway the document is located here for people to look at:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aq6FkghT6iTtdHZwaGFXLTU2SXpvV0dURHJzZV9qV1E&hl=en_US

Let's hope this works out.
Note: The workbook is in 3 sheets: the first second showing information copied from the downloads page on Omnimaga: the second first is a list of songs with info that has been modified by me, with information from both the Snake X torrent and dj.omnimaga.org. the third sheet is before any modifiying has taken place using information taken solely from the zip file at dj.omnimaga.org.

Site Feedback and Questions / What happened to the timestamps?
« on: August 29, 2011, 08:09:30 pm »
Well the timestamps for many of the posts have disappeared for a while already. Only the posts that were posted today and possibly yesterday has the timestamp. Other than that, I can't tell if it was last year or from 2008. Since there has been no apparent topic on this, and I checked all the news articles from June onwards, I felt like I needed to say something. So what happened to the timestamps?
