Nspire I/O / PrizmIO
« on: July 18, 2012, 02:10:50 pm »
This is PrizmIO, a port of NspireIO for the Casio Prizm. You can now easily output text with printf in your apps!

Right now only char output (with 16 different colors!) and very limited input (\n) works (the rest is commented out), I intend the library to be as much compatible as the Nspire version (same function prototypes, so you can write code that compiles on both Nspire and Prizm).

Download the code on http://github.com/juju2143/prizmio

help me...

(I'm writing some app that integrates with an accounting software we use and all the doc of its API is in a .hlp file. Plus it really kinda is a pain to work with. Not a huge pain, but Intellisense is saving me a lot.)

Zarmina / Art thread
« on: June 25, 2012, 11:49:43 pm »
This is Miyuki, the main character:

Blueish white hair with armor. Sounds good to me.

Also for the title screen, I might base it on this screenshot I made with Celestia, but of course with more snow, more pixels and Miyuki looking at the sky:

(Yeah I know, the contrast is pretty low :/)

So yeah, art thread. Also next would be decent 16x16 tiles (decent snow and house).

News / Play Doom on your Casio Prizm!
« on: June 25, 2012, 04:26:09 pm »
Despite being newer and having a processor two times slower than its competitor the TI-Nspire, the Casio Prizm is already beginning to be on par with it in terms of good quality third-party apps and games.

So after the overwhelming success of the Nspire version, MPoupe presents today his Casio Prizm port of Doom.

This version is in its very early stages and runs pretty slow due to the processor's limitations, even overclocked, so it may crash from times to times, so be warned.

Download it now!

I had a hard time posting my latest news, it said your session timed out or something, both on my computer and my cellphone. I desactivated IPv6 and it worked. Mind looking at this?

Replying still worked though, IPv6 or not.

News / Unreal Tournament on the TI-Nspire?
« on: June 24, 2012, 03:35:40 am »
It probably won't happen, but critor made something that is starting to be interesting (at least on a calculator): he ported NewVox, a voxel 3D engine demo for the Nspire, using the nSDL library by hoffa.

Critor only changed 4 lines in the original source to make it work on the Nspire, it proves you can port existing SDL apps really fast on the Nspire. The sky is now the limit!

Speaking of which, our own ruler501 and Juju are starting a port of SDL to the Casio Prizm. So it means we will see more interesting stuff to the Prizm, but more importantly, more programs that compiles on both PC, Nspire and Prizm.

On an unrelated note, remember how you can hallucinate on the TI-Nspire? Juju pretty much did the same on the Prizm, with the raw PrizmSDK. You can now hallucinate on the Casio Prizm as well!

Web Programming and Design / History of website making
« on: June 10, 2012, 07:13:04 pm »
I just found the earliest incarnation of my personal website, created 8 years ago in Feburary 2004, hosted on my ISP's hosting service (5MB and no PHP at the time o.o), later updated in August of that year to include frames. Since then, I developed at least 5 versions of the site.

http://pages.videotron.com/zabimage/juju2143/ (Juju's website v1.1, 2004)

Yeah, I liked Comic Sans a lot at the time. The URL was then moved to juju2143.cjb.net. The URL later moved to Multimania in 2007 with an entierely new CSS. This version debuted the concept of draggable elements later used in v3 and the Julosoft name.

http://membres.multimania.fr/juju2143/test/ (Juju's website v2, quickly redirects to v3, 2007)

I updated in 2008 with some sort of windowing system called JulOS. This version debuted the concept of personal sites disguised as operating systems later reused in v4 and v5.

http://membres.multimania.fr/juju2143/ (Juju's website v3, 2008)

The URL then moves to juju2143.kicks-ass.net:666 at home on some unreliable web server, then I bought a VPS and a domain name (julosoft.net) and moved everything there. In 2011, the site got a major overhaul: a command-line AJAXish JulOS v2.0, pretty reminescent of one of xkcd's April Fools.

http://julosoft.net/ (Juju's website v4, 2011)

Then I later bought another domain name and hosted a more accessible and readable personal site there, leaving v4 on the other domain name as some sort of experiment.

http://juju2143.ca/ (Juju's website v5, 2012)

So it's the long story of my website. I kinda feel old, 5 incarnations of the official juju2143's website in 8 years, with countless subsites such as forums, utilities, tests, proofs of concept and random crap. :P

What about you guys?

News / TI-Nspire OS 3.2 is out!
« on: June 06, 2012, 07:52:27 pm »
Hi everyone,

Today, Wednesday, 6th, June 2012, TI updated its OS for the TI-Nspire series (CX or not and CAS or not), to version 3.2 (more precisely 3.2.0.1212).

However, we do not encourage -whoever has to take exams with calculators allowed to update yet, since :

- This OS, as we announced it months ago, comes with an additional protection that fixes the flaws used by Ndless 3.1. You then will NOT be able to use Ndless 3.1 on it (thus not all the programs that require it, especially mViewer for example). Ndless 3.2 will have to be needed, whenever it comes out (it may take months) (But you can donate to Extended ! :P) But apparently the downgrade protection only got set to 3.1.0 (and not 3.2.0 as expected), so you can go back to OS 3.1 and use Ndless without problem! You can no longer downgrade to 3.0.1 though.

- No independant tests have been made to see if there still are some bugs (or new ones), on different points like maths (CAS), or on a general usage level, or also on a deeper technical level (boot …) (We remember the OS 3.X which contained a bug causing some Nspires to become unusable....).

- It is possible that some documents created with OS 3.2 aren't fully compatible with previous OSes. This will especially be the case of scripts using the new functions of the 3.2 API.

This OS was quite expected, since TI improved the math features and the Lua scripting ones, and created quite some buzz around it. Some features of the OS 3.2 had been annouced duting the 2012 international "T3" conference in Chicago.
Few weeks ago, TI published a PDF showing its main new features, which we summarized in this topic
Here are some previews in images (some are animated) :

If you are not affected by the warnings above, or that you are willing to take some risks let us know what you think of this new OS. We can't recall enough the the use of TNOC, the for Clickpad and Touchpad models, who still have a boot2 which remained at 1.4, a version allowing users to keep some control of their machines. Works even after having updated to a "downgrade-protected" OS since DowngradeFix breaks it.

(If you have any qyestion or a doubt, please reply in this topic)

News / Omnimaga Programming Contest 2012: Artificial Intelligence
« on: May 27, 2012, 01:01:50 am »

We are proud to announce the start of our annual summer coding contest! The theme this year is artificial intelligence. Contestants are challenged to make a game utilizing any form of AI.

The categories this year are:
z80:
  • 1. BASIC
  • 2. Axe/Assembly/Hybrid BASIC/Grammer
Nspire/Prizm:
  • 3. Basic
  • 4. Lua
  • 5. C/ASM
We are offering an electronic giftcard with a value of $100 to 1st place prize winners, and $30 to 2nd place.

Contestants should send an email with a link to their forum profile and a .zip containing their source, executable, and readme to o m n i m a g a c o n t e s t @ g m a i l . c o m (remove the spaces) by July 8th, 1:00AM GMT-5. Late entries will not be accepted. Axe/Hybrid/Grammer entries should state which app and version should be used to compile/run the game.

Rules:

1: The game must not contain adult material or extremely offensive content (such as racial slur).

2: You are not allowed to enter a project that was started prior the start of the contest. You can use code, images, and ideas from it, though.

3: You are allowed (and encouraged) to announce updates and screenshots of your project anywhere, but you are NOT allowed to provide any download copies of it (or the entire source code) to anyone until the end of the contest.

4: Help is allowed, as long as you respect rule #3. Also, keep in mind that usage of other people's code may affect your originality score considerably.

5: You must have a forum account to participate.

6: Only one entry per person per category is allowed

7: Your entry must be submitted before July 8th 2012, 1:00 AM GMT-5. We will not be accepting any more entry past this deadline.

8: Omnimaga has the right to change and modify the rules at any time.

Forum members interested in judging should message a staff member. You may judge any category that you are not participating in. The results will be determined by community vote (40%) and by judging (60%). The criteria will be as follows (Limitations of platform and language will be considered):
  • Theme: How the quality and application of AI enhances the game
  • Graphics: Uh, graphics. Is it pretty? How do graphics enhance the game?
  • Gameplay: Overall quality, fun-level, replayability, addictiveness, etc.
  • Speed/Usability: Controls, speed, compatibility (for z80, can it run on 6mhz models? can it run on both nspire and prizm?), game design/flow
  • Originality: Original game concept, application of a port, application of old code or others' help

Good luck!
