Web Programming and Design / Lua/HTML5 Web Interpreter
« on: February 17, 2013, 09:30:52 pm »
Was bored today, so I made this. It's a Lua interpreter (based on lua.js) with a library that works with a HTML5 canvas. Some functions are implemented and I'm slowly implementing more. At the end, it should support both Nspire Lua and LuaZM graphic functions. (Obviously, suggestions are open :))

Documentation
dofile(url) - Asynchronously executes a remote file. Ex.: Try dofile("http://juju2143.ca/test.lua") :P
gc.drawLine(x1, y1, x2, y2)
gc.drawRect(x, y, w, h)
gc.fillRect(x, y, w, h)
gc.setColorRGB(r, g, b) - Same as their Nspire counterparts
zmg.time()
zmg.ticks() - Same as their LuaZM counterparts

Known issues
- Backspace might not work as expected in some browsers, for some reason.
- dofile() is asynchonous and doesn't lock the terminal while the AJAX thing runs, so print() might print in the input.
- Infinite loops will crash your browser

I just found 42 and 666 can be written with the same set of symbols in a mathematical formula. Can you find out how I did it?

I'll edit the answer here later today (as I'm in the middle of a French course).

Edit: The answer:
Spoiler For Answer:
666, the Number of the Beast, can be written as a sum of all the natural integers between 1 and 36. (1+2+3+4+...+35+36) You can use the sigma notation:

36
Σ  x = 666
x=1

You can also write it as:

62
Σ  x = 666
x=1

Move the exponent 2 somewhere else:

6
Σ  2x = 42
x=1

which is the answer to life, the universe and everything.

QED. The beast and the universe are linked together.

Other / Beware next time you report a security flaw...
« on: January 21, 2013, 01:48:31 pm »
http://news.nationalpost.com/2013/01/20/youth-expelled-from-montreal-college-after-finding-sloppy-coding-that-compromised-security-of-250000-students-personal-data/

The guy reports a security flaw that could compromise the data of nearly every college student in Québec without any malicious intent, then reaches an agreement with the president of the company who made the software... and he gets expelled from his college while ruining his life.

This is stuff that shouldn't happen.

News / Using the TI-83 Plus/TI-84 Plus
« on: January 09, 2013, 02:49:27 pm »

KermMartian is at it again and is writing a new book, Using the TI-83 Plus/TI-84 Plus. The MEAP will go live tomorrow and will allow you to recieve chapters of the book as the author is completing them, then recieve a printed copy of the book. As the title suggests, this book will focus more on using your TI-83+ calc rather than programming it, so it will be more useful in helping with your math course than making games. The book will be completed and published in September 2013.

Miscellaneous / Happy New Year
« on: December 31, 2012, 01:21:14 am »
It's December 31st (in my timezone anyway), the 366th and last day of the year 2012, it's the end of a year and the beginning of another one.

Tomorrow in the morning, I'm leaving to the countries of the Northern Canada for about 2-3 days and I'm not even sure if my cellphone will get any signal there, so I wish you a happy new year and be nice while I'm not here ^_^

Music Showcase / Walking in the Unknown (preview demo)
« on: December 12, 2012, 12:11:51 pm »
This is pretty much the first song I officially release (it's a game soundtrack loop), this is only a preview demo, the final one will sound way better.

Also happy 12/12/12 12:12:12 (EST) :P

(Edit: stupid server it's 21 seconds late. But still, I released my first something that will eventually become a song in public on this date.)

Zarmina / Storyline
« on: December 06, 2012, 02:28:56 pm »
I wrote this back in August on exactly 2 pages of lined paper (because I was too lazy to get another sheet?) in 2-3 hours during a French course and typed it on computer this morning (again during a French course). It's not much, might make an extended version (as the ending is kinda rushed so it can fit on a single sheet of paper), but here's Chapter 1 of Zarmina. Have fun (if you speak French, otherwise I might translate it in English better than Google Translate, but it should give you a general idea) :P

Quote
Zarmina: Beyond the Dwarf Sun

News / Some news about KnightOS
« on: November 16, 2012, 02:38:34 am »

As you might or might not know, KnightOS is an active effort by SirCmpwn to make a third-party multitasking operating system for the TI-73/83+/83+SE/84+/84+SE. He recently contacted me to share about recent features added in the kernel, including multitasking up to 10 processes at once, a UNIX-style terminal with several built-in commands, localisation with support of several languages such as French, UNIX-like filesystem tree, demos and many other features. The screenshot at the beginning of this article features some of the demos, such as a counting demo that continues to count even in the background, command-line demos, the castle (the main screen) and the task manager. Several other features are planned, such as more command-line utilities such as grep and find, file explorer, wav player, math/graphing/etc apps, calendar, etc.

SirCmpwn has put up the code on GitHub, along with documentation. Feedback on both UI and system design is welcome, he can be contacted either on EFNet (send a PM to SirCmpwn), by email or open an issue on GitHub.

Note: SirCmpwn nor Omnimaga are responsible of any damage made to your calculator while using this software, the builds might be unstable (especially the 73 one). It's still a must if you're bored of the official TI-OS software though.

Computer Projects and Ideas / [Cemetech Contest #9] Reuben Quest HD
« on: November 14, 2012, 02:06:42 pm »
So yeah, I might try my hand at the Cemetech contest in the computer category. Porting Reuben Quest might be interesting, but it requires some sort of twist, so I'll incorporate some 3D stuff such as Mode 7 or raytracing (dunno which one yet). That will be interesting :P

News / A new z80 calc... in color?
« on: November 08, 2012, 11:03:15 am »

Yup, seems there's a new TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition coming soon with a color screen akin to the Casio Prizm and the Nspire CX. This morning, Cemetech member 0rac343 leaked the first known picture of the new calculator, saying his school got 2 full sets (24 calcs) to test it out. Outside the color screen, not much has changed in terms of functionality, it runs the latest Mathprint OS. Not much else is known, like app compatibility, if the programs written for older versions of the 83+ series will work correctly, if the z80 processor stayed the same, if there's still ASM support, etc. The screen is believed to be 340x240, according to Kerm Martian. A page on TI's website about it also have been discovered, confirming the news. Critor, who often get insider news directly from TI, also confirmed the news, saying it's not fake. He can't confirm anything else and points out those questions:
  • hardware used (it might be a z80, but it might be a TI-Nspire CX/CM with a permanent TI-84 keypad, which would explain why the TI-84 emulator was removed on these Nspire models)
  • compatibility with current z80 applications
  • compatibility with current z80 assembly programs
  • is there going to be a TI-84 Plus C model ?
  • is it going to be released in all countries when we allready have non-CAS TI-Nspire CX and TI-Nspire CM CAS with similar prices ?
  • will we have to update TI-Connect and TiLP?

This is a pretty interesting move from TI, they likely wanted to offer a better competition to the Casio Prizm with CX-like functionality brought to their 83+ line, or to maybe even update their old outdated hardware with modern one. As I said, not much is known outside the fact it's a TI-84+SE with a color screen. We are eager to get more news about this, and we hope tons of new color games and utilities such as a color port of Reign of Legends 3 and color support in Axe will appear soon on Omnimaga :P
