News / SOPA/PIPA blackout
« on: January 18, 2012, 12:32:01 am »
Today, January 18th, 2012, several websites will black out to raise awareness against the SOPA and PIPA bills, including Wikipedia and Reddit. Omnimaga won't make exception and will black out its downloads section all day from midnight to midnight (Eastern time). We also installed a Stop Censorship banner over the logo on the default theme. (Yeah, it would be kinda boring if we blacked out the whole site, and we feared we would lose some users. Sorry about that.)

We won't let those bills pass, as Omnimaga, like a bunch of your favorite sites, will probably get censored because it won't met hard-to-meet copyright requirements. Act now and call your congress representative in your state, or, if you're not american, the US state department.

Read more about the whole thing here.

News / Make your Nspire CX a rocket!
« on: January 14, 2012, 07:15:38 pm »
Remember Nover, a Ndless 2 program that lets you overclock your Nspire? It lets you increase the base, CPU and AHB bus speed by 20%.

Obviously, the CX also can be overclocked. We don't want to leave you without overclocking tools, so a version of Nover for Ndless 3.1 is in preparation. With this tool, the base CPU can be overclocked to 378 MHz, so is the CPU and the AHB bus to 189 MHz. Of course, your calculator would be unstable with the settings all maxed up. Calc84maniac reports a CPU speed of 246 MHz without the calc rebooting because it's too fast and an AHB speed of 90 MHz without the LCD and other stuff being screwed up. It's still a nice improvement over the original CPU speed of 132 MHZ and 66 MHz for the AHB.

WabbitStudio Software Suite / Wabbitemu on Android
« on: January 14, 2012, 06:30:22 pm »
We were a lot on IRC to request a port of Wabbitemu on Android, that might be cool to have one. So I'm working on it with Buckeye, he already made the core working on Android and I'm working on the bugs left and improvement of the UI. Test rom works, but can't turn a normal, 83+ v1.19 ROM on. Further news about that project shall be posted here.

We are pleased to announce that the Great Restructuration of Omnimaga, announced two weeks ago, has finally been completed yesterday. After the rules, we also changed the membergroups as follow:

- The Anti-Riot Squad (ARS) now have full moderation power over the forums, much like the former CoT group. They also have a brighter shade of red.
- The Coders of Tomorrow (CoT) no longer have full power, only on their respective project subforums. Existing CoTs has been given ARS powers, the future ones might or might not be ARS as well. That is, someone can get both ARS and CoT, the CoT label takes precedence. Both also have write access to the News section.
- The Newsers group has been officially added (it existed for a while, unofficially). DJ_O, Critor, Adriweb and jimbauwens join the ranks of this new group. They now have write access to the News section.
- Our resident Lobster, Netham45, has been elected President, CEO and Supreme Overlord of Omnimaga. He hosts Omnimaga and made lots of cool features for the site, such as OmnomIRC.
- The Managers group, who own Omnimaga, didn't changed.
- Finally, we completely restructurated the hidden boards for use by the different groups. Each group have their own hidden subforum. (Obviously, there's no Lobster subforum as we only have one Lobster. They use the Managers board instead.)

So here's the new order of precedence:
- Lobster
- Managers
- Anti-Riot Squad
- Coders of Tomorrow
- Newsers
- Normal Members

Happy holidays!

News / Tales of the Lost Post Ratings
« on: November 27, 2011, 07:59:00 pm »
Earlier tonight, an admin found, deep in a closet of the basements of the Omnimaga headquarters, alongside remains of exploded lobsters, a crate of no less than 808 unclaimed post ratings, all destined to DJ_O. For some reason, the post rating system forgot they existed. We then gave back the ratings to DJ_O, who said they were probably lost during a downrating attack back in 2010 when he still was admin. "I think those 800 extra ratings were due to someone undoing the Bungie attack, but he uprated way too many posts compared to what Bungie downrated. However I manually decreased my respect back to its actual value afterward. The rest might be due to one of my account deletions, though.", says DJ_O. DJ_O now owns, at the time of writing, a whooping respect of +2151. Other peoples also claimed lost post ratings, such as Eeems, who recently recovered about 20 of them.

Netham45 also came up with an useful tool so you can check which posts you got up/downrated. No more complaining about your downrates! Admins also gets a tool to easily undo mass-downrates, in case it will ever happen again, much like last time with Eeems or ephan. Admins had a hard time recovering from it, having no idea of what to do but messing in the SQL databases directly, the downrater finally manually uprated the victims again.

Edit (Netham45): It should be noted that you need a minimum of 50 respect to use it.

Edit (Netham45): It should also be noted that spamming +1's on people so they can get to 50 is in violation of the rules. Thanks for not abusing the rating system.

Edit (Ztrumpet): 50 respect requirement removed.

Other / Juju's Handheld Console
« on: November 27, 2011, 01:46:27 am »
So I'm building something that would look like a gaming console out of an Arduino Uno and I just finished writing the first game for it, which is obviously a port of Nick Disabato's award-winning game Wacky Fun Random Numbar Generator v1.00000069! (Lol that's my 2nd port of the game, after the Wii one :P) Right now it have a bulky old PS/2 keyboard as input and the serial console as output (as my LCD screen is still stuck at the customs D:), but it will be fully portable as soon as I get all the parts and will feature:

- A monochrome LCD screen!
- Joystick and buttons!
- Optionally, plug your old bulky PS/2 keyboard in!
- Works with a 9V battery!
- Lots of games and utilities!
- Play multiplayer via 433 MHz RF waves!
- Build it yourself!

Coming soon! Note that this might be a full-fledged modern '80s-style computer as well, much like some sort of homemade Commodore 64/Game Boy/TI-83+ or something.
