News / Tutorial section now open
« on: July 28, 2011, 06:12:05 pm »
A while ago, we opened a Tutorials section on the site, but it needed a staff member to move one's tutorial from a thread in the forum to the section. But now you'll be delighted to learn that everyone above 40 posts can post a new tutorial there! It will work much like the downloads section, anyone above 40 posts can submit a tutorial which must be approved by staff, members above 1000 posts gets auto-approved, forum rules still applies and authors of existing tutorials can edit their own tutorials.

We also recommend you to create a new topic in the forums when you create a new tutorial, it's not automatic yet.

Have some fun now ;)

Site Feedback and Questions / Dynamic stats graphs
« on: July 26, 2011, 11:33:09 pm »
Here's a dynamic graph I made with GD (as opposed to static graphs made by DJ_O).

http://omnimaga.org/statsgraph.php (it's a pic, despite the .php you can put them in <img> tags, although it's not recommended unless I put a cache system in)

Any suggestions are welcome.

The black line is the 30-day moving average, while the gray line is the 7-day average. Thanks to Runer112 for the font.

News / 18th month in a row beating that month's record
« on: July 26, 2011, 12:01:56 am »

We are pleased to announce we have beaten the monthly posting record for July, which was 6539 posts! Not only we beat July's record, but we did it for the 18th month in a row! That is, each month since Febuary 2010 we broke the record for the respective month, old incarnations of the board included. Also notice how we are now close to 175 kiloposts since 2008 and over 230 since 2005.

Seems we are unstoppable now... Happy posting :)

News / TI-30X MultiView programming coming soon?
« on: July 24, 2011, 01:32:27 am »
This week, critor discovered documentation for ASM programming on Toshiba T4x processors, used in all recent TI scientific calculators, such as the TI-30XB/XS MultiView, TI-30X Pro MultiView, TI-34 MultiView, TI-36X Pro and TI-Collège Plus. This is a huge step towards ASM programming on these calcs. Next step is to find the necessary tools to compile ASM code described in the above documentation, which are currently nowhere to be found, and to find a way to execute the resulting programs.

Knowing that these calculators have a dot-matrix screen similar to their graphic counterparts, TI-30 programming will allow infinite possibilities, much like the TI-83+, but with a 2x smaller screen.

Click here for more info, including links to the documentation, emulators and ROMs.

The collection is now complete! DJ Omnimaga (also known as DJ_O on the forums) uploaded today the last non-copyrighted song of his rather huge collection of songs he created and produced since June 2002, including old cassette recordings. You can find all the songs in mp3 format in our download section (you must be a registered member to access this section) or listen to them on Omnimaga Radio.

In June 2002 until the end of January 2004, DJ Omnimaga began producing various form of trance music as well as some techno, happy hardcore and UK hardcore, using mostly MTV Music Generator for the Playstation 1, but also MTV Music Generator 2, MTVMG3, Digital Hitz Factory (Music 3000) and other music production software. After nearly 3 years of hiatus, around Christmas 2006, DJ regained his interest in music, producing new songs non-stop until today, still creating new songs. Additionally with Omnimaga, he also founded a forum about MTV Music Generator.

Have some fun listening :)

UPDATE (7/20): Due to recent events, until further notice, all of DJ_O's files in the download section are now unavailable.

UPDATE 2: They are back :) Sorry for the little interruption.

News / Five new Coders of Tomorrow hired
« on: July 19, 2011, 05:48:20 pm »
Today, we are happy to add five members to our team.

-To begin, we have JustCause, a very qualified coder who is working on programs such as Cubes, MFQT, and Omni Emblem.  He has been a member of Omnimaga over a year now, knows Axe, and is currently working on a ROM hack of Fire Emblem.  We welcome him to the Coders of Tomorrow Team!

-Another promotion is Darl181, who is also a one year member.  He recently submitted Dimension Shift to the Axe 2011 Omnimaga Contest, which is a twist on the classic game shift, allowing you to shift and switch dimensions.  Now he is continuing work on other minigames.  We wish him luck in the contest and congratulate him for making the CoT position.

-FinaleTI, who has been working on an RPG called Nostalgia since the early days of Axe, has also been promoted to the Coder of Tomorrow position.  Nostalgia is an Axe game where you can shift dimensions, from the ASCII RPGs of BASIC to the Graphical ones of Axe.  Wish him good luck on Nostalgia!

-A platformer genius, leafiness0 deserves the promotion.  He recently released Tag, a very promising Axe contest entrant that is very likely to win.  Tag is not the only puzzle-physics-platformer he has released, he is also working on Graviter, a gravity flipping game in which you can control the direction of gravity to win the game.

-SirCmpwn, who was staff before, has had his position renewed.  He is working on many impressive projects such as tiDE, a z80 assembly IDE; Motherload, a port of the fun flash game; and KnightOS, a third-party OS that features multitasking, game development tools, and more.  Let's welcome him back to the team!

Congratulations to our new staff :)

While the TI-83+/84+ Axe Parser portion of the Omnimaga contest is ending (the deadline is in 24 hours) and the TI-Nspire portion is still going (deadline is on August 15th), I am honored to present you the 3rd part of Omnimaga contest: a Casio Prizm game, programming tool or media player. Much like Part #2, all Casio Prizm programming languages are allowed and will compete together.

Like Part #1 (Axe) and Part #2 (TI-Nspire) of the contest, this one has a 2 months deadline (September 15th 2011). This means you should avoid extremly large projects such as an RPG, and make sure your project is safe from hard drive failures.

Here are the rules (LAST UPDATED: JULY 15TH):

1: If you are doing a game, it must contain some form of graphics or ASCII-art. We will not accept any menu-based game. Games must also have a certain form of interactivity (no game where all you do is keeping pressing Enter or where you are forced to manually run different programs all the time) This is to keep a certain quality control, especially for those who enters a BASIC game, to make the contest voting interesting.

2. If your program is in BASIC, you must use color commands. The Prizm has a color screen, we want you to exploit this fact :)

3: You must backup your project progress at least every 30 minutes. Telepathy will be used to detect if every contestant does so. :P

4: The game must not contain adult material or extremely offensive content (such as racial slur).

5: You are not allowed to enter a project that was started prior the start of the contest. You can use code, images and ideas from it, though.

6: You are allowed to announce updates and screenshots of your project anywhere, but you are NOT allowed to provide any download copies of it (or the entire source code) to anyone until the end of the contest.

7: Help is allowed, as long as you respect rule #5. Also keep in mind that usage of other people's code may affect your originality score considerably.

8: You must have a forum account to participate.

9: Only one entry per person is allowed for the Casio Prizm contest. If somebody submits a game pack, his score will be the average of all games included. In other words, you better spend your time on one bigger game than many small ones.

10: Your entry must be submitted before September 16th 2011, 1:00 AM GMT-4. We will not be accepting anymore entry past this deadline.

11: You can participate in part #1 and/or #2 of the contest too, if you want, but keep in mind that this will give you much less time to finish your entries, as part #2 overlaps on part #3 (Part 2 ends in one month).

12: Omnimaga has the right to change and modify the rules at any time.

Your entry must be sent attached via e-mail at  o m n i m a g a 2 0 1 1 c o n t e s t @ g m a i l . c o m  (remove the spaces) and your e-mail must include the following:

1: Your game in g3a format (can be zipped) with the source code included.

2: You must state if your game is a C game, ASM game or a BASIC game, and which compiler you used. Instructions on how to use it should be included too.

3: A link to your forum account

The Prize:

The winner of this portion of the contest will receive $100 in gift card(s) for Amazon, iTunes or Newegg stores. The winner can choose another store if he wants to, as long as it's secure.

Good luck to all who enter!

For those who need the rules for Part #1 or Part #2 of the Omnimaga contest, they are still available here and here.

News / German boards are now live!
« on: July 13, 2011, 06:02:56 pm »
After a request from our German members, we decided to create a new German board. It will run pretty much like the French one. German members can now discuss and get help in their native language, hope it helps the ones who are inexperienced in English.

Also, new language boards can be created on request if enough members from that language supports it, while inactive ones can be closed, like the now defunct Dutch board.

Thanks to compu and GreenFreak for the board translations :)

UPDATE: We also opened #omnimaga-de on OmnomIRC!

Viel Spaß!

News / Axe Parser 1.0.0 is out!
« on: July 13, 2011, 02:04:38 pm »
Quigibo released this morning the highly anticipated Axe Parser 1.0.0! Lots of new features and changes are included with this release. For the ones who didn't knew yet, Axe is a compiled programming language for the TI-83+/84+ series of calculators, programmable and compilable on-calc.

Well its finally here!  Believe it or not, there were still a whole lot of features I wanted to add before releasing it, but the contest deadline is coming up and I've already been delaying too much so I'm going to release it now for better or worse.  Some of the changes are really dramatic, so it will definitely take some time to get used to the paradigm shifts that come with it.

So I was going to write a really long post saying how far the project has come and how much the community has helped me code, test, and popularize Axe Parser.  But then I realized that it would sound like a culmination, and I don't want it to seem at all like I'm done coding or that the parser is finalized.  Also, its 4:30 AM for me right now and I've been staying up this late this whole week trying to get this thing out the door, so I'd rather get some sleep instead.  You guys already know how awesome you are, you don't need me to tell you that  :hyper:

Hopefully there won't be any major bugs since I've been testing it with a few other people and have fixed all the bugs uncovered so far.  So have fun and hopefully everyone in the contest can adapt their code for 1.0.0, there weren't too many incompatibilities for this size of a release and all of them are extremely easy to fix.

If you have problems, don't forget you can get help in the Axe section and there is a wiki here.

By the way, you only have a day and a half left to submit your program for the Axe contest. Hope you can convert your program to 1.0.0 in time, if you want to take the risk... Don't forget to make backups before, in case it fails.

Download Axe 1.0.0 here!

News / Donations
« on: July 11, 2011, 09:42:38 pm »
You may have noticed a new donate button below the miscellaneous box on the main page. Effectively, you can now donate to Omnimaga!

You know, hosting Omnimaga, its sister site TIMGUL and OmnomIRC isn't free. It costs up to $1000 a year, our founder DJ_O used to pay as much as $600 himself, including Omnimaga and TIMGUL's hosting and the contest prizes (the last $400 being for hosting OmnomIRC on Netham45's VPS), but this year, we have to rely on the community, since DJ left. So feel free to donate some money :) We already found members willing to pay rather huge donations already, so the future of Omnimaga is already safe for now, but we would like to leave everyone the chance to contribute, so we could use the extra money on bigger contest prizes and other miscellaneous goodies such as upgrading the hosting package if we need to.

I would also want to remind you that you have a little more than 3 days left to submit your program to the Axe programming contest. I recommend you to take your time not to rush your release nor to wait at the last minute to send it.

Web Programming and Design / juju.qc.to URL shortener
« on: July 11, 2011, 05:53:17 pm »
I'm working on my own URL shortener as well. It doesn't work like every URL shortener, in fact it rather works much like OmniURL, but with multiple website support.

How it works? URLs are formatted like this: http://juju.qc.to/<website ID>/<param1>/<param2>/<paramN>

Some websites supports parameters, such as Omnimaga.

All integer parameters are encoded in base 62 and are optional.

Websites supported:
- b: juju2143.qc.to (my blog) (param1: postID)
- c: Cemetech (param1: postID)
- f: my Facebook account
- g: my Google+ account
- o: Omnimaga (param1: topicID, param2: postID)
- p: jkag's pastebin (param1: paste ID)
- r: ???
- source: the source
- t: my Twitter account
- More to be added later!

Examples:
http://juju.qc.to/o - Omnimaga's main page
http://juju.qc.to/o/2sk - This topic

News / Testing new bot-automated front page news article system
« on: July 10, 2011, 03:38:06 am »
Because sometimes we are a bit late onposting news articles on our front page, and because we try to expand our scope towards new subjects, we thought that it would be a great idea to automate the process of posting news. As a result, tonight we have installed a new forum feature: PostBots. Basically, they are bots that crawls the entire web for news content that is relevant to our website.

However, we discovered that this new software was shareware after installing it. As a result, it caused the bot to advertise Las Vegas Florist websites directly on our front page news. As a result, we have been forced to remove the mod immediately, although some of our users seemed to be interested in the new content and potential site expansion. In the future we will see if we change our mind and put it back on.
