General Calculator Help / Nspire Serial boot 2 downgrade?
« on: February 10, 2014, 07:27:14 pm »
I recently got a TTL-USB adapter and I want to use it to downgrade my nspire's boot 2. I have a hardware revision I CX CAS, but my problem is getting the pins to stay and keeping the serial port from snapping shut while I attempt to connect the proper pins. I've been trying for hours, using tape to keep the pins down, but they continue to move around and I can't get them to stay. I haven't connected it to the computer in fear of one of the pins moving and messing up my calc. Could you please give me a tip on how to keep the pins in place and how to send the boot 2 to the nspire? I also have no knowledge of sending files through RS232. My operating system is Ubuntu Linux.
Thanks,
njaddison

Gaming Discussion / Nothin' but Duke Nukem
« on: November 06, 2012, 11:36:15 am »
Duke Nukem is awesome. If you don't think so, then here's proof:
This is what happens when alien scum mess with the Duke (Screenshots from Duke Nukem 3D Polymer Hi-res pack):
Number 1: Trooper Heads

So, this is why Duke Nukem is awesome. Because he kicks butt without even breaking a sweat.
I used an Rocket Launcher to gib the Assault Troopers. Then, I picked up their heads, carried them to the lobby, and placed them in a line. I feel sorry for those troopers, though. I know that it probably doesn't feel very good to have a rocket slamming into you and then gibbing you.

Gaming Discussion / Duke Nukem 3D DukeMatch/Co-Op Dedicated Server
« on: November 04, 2012, 05:53:46 pm »
Anybody wanna have a dukematch or Co-op? I just got my first duke server up and running.
You have to have 3 things in order to play on the server:
Eduke32 (The most advanced sourceport of Duke3D)
DukePlus (A mod by DeeperThought, a Duke3D developer; If you don't have DukePlus, then you will epically FAIL because you will be playing the regular Duke3D, just with a sourceport)
YANG (Yet Another Netplay Guider)

Optional, but extremely recommended stuff:
Polymer HRP (I don't know whether or not you can play on the server without it)
A graphics card that supports OpenGL.

You can find the server under Eduke32 server in the YANG Browser. The server is called Duke3D Co-Op/Deathmatch Server 1. You can kill other players, or you can kill monsters.
Please, I really want someone to play with!!!!

Nelson Addison's Techno Symphony #1

http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=837

This is a song I made. I started working on it on Monday, 10/15/12, and finished on Wednesday, 10/17/12.

It is called "Techno Symphony #1." It is my first techno-type song.

Originally, I wanted the song to be dubstep (which, by the way, is a sub-genre of techno), but I decided that I liked a more fast paced, poppy song better.

Hope you like it! This is the 5th song I have made so far, so feel free to give me suggestions!

I made this song using Anvil Studio (to make the song) and Synthfont (to convert the song to an mp3, and add affects like panning and pitch bend). I used multiple soundfonts when converting this song to an mp3. They are:
ChoriumRevA.sf2
drumkit3.1all.sf2
8Rock11e.sf2
8RealGS20.sf2

If the file upload is still not working, here is the link:

General Discussion / General Rock Music Talk
« on: October 24, 2012, 08:50:15 pm »
Hey guys.

Does anybody still listen to good Rock Music? If you do, or want to join in, then this topic is for you.

I listen to all kinds of Rock (Classic, Modern, Metal, Heavy Metal, etc.)

My favorite bands are Pillar, Journey, and Linkin Park. I also like rock music from composers like Robert C. Prince III and Lee Jackson, who made music from video games. Lee Jackson's Grabbag (Theme frome Duke Nukem 3D) is awesome!!!!!!!

I remember when I first started listening to Linkin Park. My dad brought the Hybrid Theory CD home one day. He played it in the car when we were on vacation one time.

After that, I asked him for the CD. Ever since then, it's been inside my stereo's CD Player. I listen to it frequently.

Do any of you guys have experiences like this with rock?

Also, I've just gotten a recent interest in AC/DC. If you like metal, then AC/DC will hit you with a wave of awesomeness!

So, you guys get the point.

-Nelson Addison

I feel kinda stupid asking this question. I know that I'll probably get some vicious replies. If not then, I stand corrected.

Would MS-DOS work on the nspire? I mean like the MS-DOS Prompt, or DOSBox.

Would the actual MS-DOS work on the nspire with a few tweaks and changes? If not, then would DOSBox, or the actual Windows Command Prompt, work?

I saw that tangrs is trying to port Linux to the nspire: http://ourl.ca/17131/318457

So I thought, "Why not MS-DOS?"

I think that DOS would be nice on the nspire. It would allow you to run DOS games. This means that you could play MS-DOS games without them having to be ported to the nspire. Like the actual Duke Nukem 3D, for instance, which I really want on the nspire.

Also, if DOSBox could be ported to the nspire, you could run older versions of Windows!!!!!!

Please tell me whether or not this is possible. If it is, I think that both DOSBox and MS-DOS would be nice.

Computer Projects and Ideas / Duke Nukem Mod for Doom
« on: August 19, 2012, 08:14:57 pm »
Hi guys, I am creating a duke nukem 3d mod for doom which uses 3D enemies and weapons.

The mod is for skulltag, GZDoom, and the Doomsday Engine. I am using 3D models from the polymer high-res pack for duke nukem 3D.

I have come across a number of errors while making the mod.

One is the weapons are drawn to the top of the screen. The other is that the textures are all out of whack, and in distorted and twisted positions. How can I solve this? I have a screenshot below.

As you can see, the pistol is at the top of the screen instead of at the bottom, where it should be.

TI-Nspire / C++ on the Nspire?
« on: August 13, 2012, 11:31:08 pm »
so, I was wondering if C++ would be possible on the nspire through ndless.
I know that ndless is for c, but would it be possible for an ndless update that allows C++, or some kind of ndless C++ library?

I am learning C++, but ndless is for c. So even after I finish C++ tutorials, then I'll have to take c, which will be like learning the same thing over again, just with a few differences.

So, back to the question at the beginning, would it be possible?

TI-Nspire / Duke Nukem 3D for Nspire

After analyzing the source code of Duke Nukem 3D, I ran across a few problems.

The source files were C, and there were some Header files, and a few makefiles too.

And, I don't know how to map to the nspire's keys anyway, or to the screen. And the DUKE3D.GRP is too large to fit on my nspire. By the way, this is the source code for the Atomic Edition of Duke Nukem 3D.

I got the source from 3d realms website. Here is the link:

ftp://ftp.3drealms.com/source/duke3dsource.zip

I really need help.

Hoffa created nSDL for nspire. But, I couldn't find the sdl source code for duke nukem. I am hoping that one day a direct port of Duke Nukem 3D to the Nspire will be possible.

If anyone can find the sdl source code, can you upload it to this topic?

Music Showcase / Starfall
« on: August 02, 2012, 09:15:29 pm »
Here is some music I plan to make for a game someday.

Someday, I will graduate from college. I am planning to get my degree in Computer Software Design.

That's really far away. I am going to 8th grade.

So, I have planned some games that I want to make, and have began the novels, and the music for the games.

Starfall is about a Humanoid Alien, called a Celestial Human, named Michael. Celestial Humans are basically just glowing humans with wings .

In the beginning of Celestia, the home of the Celestians, there was a civil war, and Celestia was divided into to powers: Good  and Evil .

The evil lost the civil war, and were kicked out of Celestia. The evil Celestians were named the Fallen Stars , and they searched for another planet to inhabit, and they found Earth. The good Celestians, the Celestial Operations Army, came to Earth in the defense of the Humans. The Humans taught the Celestial Operations Force how to use Guns and other modern and futuristic weapons. Undead humans, commonly called "Zombies" taught the Fallen Stars, or the Demonic Operations Force, how to use guns and other modern and futuristic weapons too.

It's the year 2087. The COA fights alongside the Humans, and the DOF fights alongside the Zombies.

Throughout the game, I plan to make music that goes along with theme of each level and cutscenes.

So far I have made the Theme Music in MIDI, and have converted it to mp3 also (The mp3 sounds real and modern).

I have attached the song at the bottom-, in MIDI, and in MPEG-3(mp3). Feel free to comment on it, as this is my absolute FIRST song I have ever made. My parents think it sounds nice, although parents can sometimes lie to make their children feel good about themselves....

Music Showcase / High Quality Music Packs for DOS Games
« on: August 02, 2012, 08:39:14 pm »
I have completely converted the songs from Doom 1, Doom 2, and Final Doom: TNT Evillution into a modern sounding soundtrack!

If you have any other hi-res/hi-quality music for old games (No MIDI or MUS files, they're not high-quality, unless you want people to compare the old music to the hi-res music) post it on the forums please.

I will post the links for the Doom when i finish uploading the zips to my website.

Even though I just started playing Doom last year, I have a false nostalgia when I think about the 1990s and all of the games that came out.  I call it false nostalgia because I was not born until the end of the 90s, in '99.

ROM Hacking and Console Homebrew / WiiBrew: DOSBox on the Wii
« on: June 05, 2012, 11:48:07 am »
Guys, I recently installed the homebrew channel on my wii. If you don't already know, The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall has been released as freeware by Bethesda Softworks. So, I downloaded it onto my sd card so I could run it using DOSBox, on my wii. But, when I try to mount my sd card in DOSBox on my wii, it said that there was no such directory as "sd:\". So, I downloaded another copy of wii dosbox, and I needed a usb keyboard. So, after I get a keyboard, Daggerfall keeps on saying "Looks like you inserted the wrong cd rom. Please insert your Daggerfall cd rom into the cd rom drive." The thing is, I don't have a Daggerfall cd rom, and I don't think DOSBox will be able to read the cd rom on my wii. All of the files are on my sd card. Please help me!
Also, I keep getting the same error message on the pc, so it is not my wii's fault. HELLPPPP!

General Calculator Help / Stolen touchpad...
« on: March 26, 2012, 06:07:31 pm »
Are the documents and the os on my nspire stored on the nspire or on the touchpad? Someone stole my touchpad, and I want to make sure that I don't get secretly upgraded when I get a new touchpad. I will try to find it before I buy a new one, but I think that it is stolen.

Art / Help with 2D sprites
« on: March 16, 2012, 03:09:08 pm »
Are there any good artists that can draw some sprites for a game that I am making for my Video Animation class at school? It's a doom style game, so the sprites have to be first person. I'm going to need:
Dual Wield Ballistic Knife sprites sheet (A sprite for every movement of the knives. I don't have time to make a script for each movement of the knives, so I need a sprite for each movement of the knives). Here are two examples of Ballistic Knives (credit goes to Activision and Treyarch, in Call of Duty: Black Ops, one of the most awesome games I own):

And then, I need some knife sprites (Also from Black Ops):

Railgun (From the Cybercrime 3.0 Deathmatch PWAD for Doom):

Finally, I need some dual wield handrails, miniature railguns that can be held in both hands. This is something that I thought of, so there is not an image for these. As long as they look well, then I don't care how they look.

I found the source code for wolfenstein 3d on id software's website. Now, it will have to be edited to work with the nspire's keys, but all the c scripts and header files are included.
Here's the attachment:

Have fun (trying to compile it and play it)!
