an 8*8 is 8 bytes, which means a 16 character alpha-numeric code per sprite
EDIT: oh, and instead of having an exact size for each object you could always just use a specific pattern of values to act as a header, indicating that one is ending and another is beginning, and then just number your objects to find the offset to it in your data. or, as another option, you could have a list that's a set size at the beginning of your appvar which holds, in a set number of bytes (say 2-4) indicates the size of your object and the offset to where it begins. that would mean that, in order to find the 3rd tileset (or whatever it is you happen to be storing) you could just skip to the 3rd entry in the table, find it's position and size, and work from there.

they've just realised that not many people put a lot of time and effort into purchasing a calculator, and, because their name is so well established, they can overprice all they want and still keep the majority of the market. still, their ridiculous pricing has now resulted in losing at least one customer

1709: you just looked through your personal stats to determine what percentage of your time you have spent logged into omni over the past year and came up with 4.5% 1710: you then try to rationalise it, saying that there was a lot of time spent at school and asleep which really shouldn't be included in that time, making the percentage considerably higher
EDIT: 1711: you then look up at freyadays 'time spent online' stat and feel ashamed

i was only thinking that gray wouldn't work because i didn't know you'd added in a delay to slow the weather down, and thus thought speed would be a big issue  the weather looks considerably better now! if you were able to find a few more optimisations then grey may actually work (although i'd personally rather see it in it's current state with a bit of a speed increase) nice work!

hmm... that sucks. all i can do is offer my condolences, i suppose, and tell you that you aren't the only one with this sort of issue. you should definitely try to hop on irc at least, because being around people with interests that are similar to yours every now and then can be incredibly helpful. i'm also kind of hesitant to say this, because i don't know the details or what relationship you have with your father, but you should try to find some outlet for your coding that you can manage without his seeing (borrowing a friends laptop, getting a hold of some hand-held that offers coding options, or something like that) because in the end simply complying with your father in this situation would both be bad for your health and bad for your future career. before trying something like that, though, you should do your best to try to explain yourself to him and try to make him reconsider. one's relationship with one's father is pretty important as well, and if there's any way to salvage it you should definitely try. good luck with life!

gtk seems to be having some rendering issues with omnom (or at least for me). as you can see, the text bar at the bottom doesn't fit in the space where it should, and the arrows second from the right, for scrolling up and down, and the arrows in the top left don't function. i don't know how long it's been like this (since i can normally never use omnom because i'm at my house), but this has been both yesterday and today at least.
EDIT: oh, and chan messages are being stuck over in the left column with the usernames rather than in the right 'text body' section. they look like this because of it: [09:10:31 AM] * calcdude has joined #omnimaga is it supposed to do that?

I originally wanted to code this game with a realistic slime that had a dozen points bound by a particle system, but that is WAY too hard for calc. so Gish? i really like the 'jumping from one surface to another' animation, but the moving animation looks a bit choppy. maybe you could add in another frame? i like the concept! good luck on finishing on time.
