Art / glitchness / databending (warning, large things are large)« on: June 19, 2016, 04:26:35 am »
so, for the past while, have been making "glitch art" things, which basically entails taking bits and pieces from existing images (sometimes things i take myself), modifying them algorithmically or randomly in interesting ways, and pasting them together to make something new.
here are a few (click for full versions, but watch out for large file sizes!): (yes, the pink and teal one is me ^_^) if these are interesting, have lots more on my site place (https://shmibbles.me/) and a redbubble thing as well (http://www.redbubble.com/people/shmibs) does anybody else do this sort of thing? 3
News / Contest 2013 - Results (finally)« on: December 15, 2013, 12:48:13 am »Hey Everyone! We apologise for how long it took, but the results are finally in and tallied. If you need a quick reminder, this year's competition was exclusively for the monochrome TI 83+/84+ series of calculators. we had two categories:
Each entry in both categories was then judged in two ways: by a team of staff acting as judges (according to the criteria listed here), and via a forum public vote. The results from both sections were then determined by adding the results of each. Prizes will be awarded to the top three entries in each category (as per described here). Now, without further ado, here are our three winners from each category! Axe/Assembly/Hybrid BASIC
Pure BASIC
And that's it! A hearty congratulations to our winners as well as a big thank you to everyone who participated; We hope to see you all again next year! I've attached the full results below if you want to see who placed where and for what reasons in more detail. EDIT: If the winners would please PM geekboy1011 their addresses, he will handle shipping you your prizes! 4
News / Contest 2013 - Public Vote Ends Tonight!« on: December 13, 2013, 12:10:07 pm »Remember, tonight at midnight (GMT -5) the contest public vote (see here) will end and contest results will be announced. So far, very few people have actually participated in the voting, so, if you want to have a say in who wins, you'd better act quickly! Thanks to everyone who participated this year, and may the best programs win! 7
News / New banner and new search function« on: July 13, 2013, 03:46:38 am »
As of today, there is a "new" v6 theme acting as the default. At the moment, it is just a duplicate of v5 with a new banner i made to include more recent community programs. However, if you have any other suggestions for how things could be tweaked visually, feel free to post them below!
Also as of today, Sorunome has replaced the non-functional search bar (which has long been out of commission due to obscenely slow loading times) with a redirect to a site search on DuckDuckGo, so be sure to thank him if you see him around =) 8
TI Z80 / tok8x: a very simple on-computer tokeniser/detokeniser« on: April 06, 2013, 10:48:08 am »
things like kerm's Source Coder 2 or merth's TokenIDE are all well and good for converting an 8x program between plaintext and link formats, but there are a few limitations to both: namely that they require graphical environments and cannot be scripted. to achieve these two purposes, i've started writing a tokeniser/detokeniser of my own (github). it's already functional, with the only remaining tasks being adding in full token sets (right now it only contains a very small subset of the axe tokens which i was using for testing purposes), implementing the option to skip comment lines, optionally writing to stdout, and writing the detokeniser (which is much simpler than its counterpart). have a screenshit!

Site Feedback and Questions / Updating the Site Banner« on: February 10, 2013, 11:19:59 pm »
it seemed about time to update the old banner again, seeing as how the pictures and screenshots are a bit out of date. changing around the style completely wouldn't go well with the current theme, though. post any suggestions for screenshots you'd like to see up there! also, should "The Coders of Tomorrow - Since 2001" be changed to a different font? post suggestions for that as well!
EDIT: wip version below. tell me what to change! EDIT2: ok, i think it's done. 10
Gaming Discussion / McDROID« on: January 22, 2013, 05:43:42 pm »this game is brilliant. it blends multiple ideas to create a system that has all the best bits of tower defense (unit placement and waves of enemies), shmup (LAZORS EVERYWHERE, manual aim control), and rts (resource management) to make something that isn't quite any of them. the cartoon-y art style, unique soundtrack, and jokes throughout don't hurt things, either. oh, and the latest build supports online multiplayer =D. because it's still in beta, it's on sale (75% off, as of this writing) right now over on desura, so, if this at all piqued your interests, you should definitely go snag a copy! (oh, and, if any of you happen to get it, feel free to poke me for some co-op) 11
Other / large-capacity music players« on: November 16, 2012, 12:45:59 am »
heyo, everyone!
what options are there, if any, for a portable music player that has space for 100+ GB of data and can scrobble? my old 8GB fuze + 32GB SD card combo has finally died, and i want something that can actually hold my entire library, but the options seem rather slim. 12
Other / Firefox OS / Boot 2 Gecko« on: September 15, 2012, 11:27:15 pm »
Firefox OS (formerly known as Boot 2 Gecko) is a new, open-source mobile operating system by the mozilla team. unlike it's competitors, it runs web technology almost directly on top of a linux kernel (it uses Gonk, a stripped-down linux distro with plenty of hardware support for HTML5/javascript etcetera) to make them MUCH faster. basically, the entire operating system is a web browser, with the interface written in HTML5 and completely customisable by the end user.
a couple of hardware companies have signed on to produce phones, and prototypes are already making the rounds. so, who's excited? here are a couple of articles: rawkes.com blog.mozzila.org EDIT (Eeems): Here are a few official sites about FxOS https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Firefox_OS https://wiki.mozilla.org/B2G http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/b2g/ 13
Gaming Discussion / glitches, bugs, and exploits« on: August 03, 2012, 02:30:15 am »
oftentimes, a game's bugs and glitches can offer even more enjoyment than the game itself, because of the degree of freedom they can allow along with the satisfaction of discovering something completely new.
so what are your favourites? * shmibs loves most the glitches in ocarina of time and majoras mask. for the most part they are completely harmless to the game itself, but they allow you to do things out of order or just see link doing really funny things (like swimming on land). the glitches in kotor2 were also pretty satisfying. there were a couple of areas where an infinite number of enemies could be spawned, yielding infinite experience, as well as glitches for cloning lightsabers (crystals and all) and placing an infinite number of crystals inside a single lightsaber. being ludicrously overpowered is always fun. here's another slightly amusing thing i found just now. remember that hole in the ceiling at the beginning of amnesia? here's what it looks like from above: 14
