Web Programming and Design / Re: OmniPlayer - Webplayer for our music
« on: April 24, 2011, 07:56:37 pm »
now the REAL question is whether or not this runs on the Omniweb browser :p
i have no handheld devices, so i've just been testing this out in a series of different webkit-based browsers. the only one that has "worked" as of yet is chromium, and that never makes it past the song loading screen.
it looks very shiny, though!

XDE / Re: XDREVIVAL! And a call for collaborators.

ooh, sounds fun indeed! i'd like to help out and have about as much axe experience as anyone who isn't runer :p
i'm not much of one for z80 asm yet, though, so that might be problematic. what all are you planning to do first?

EDIT: a little bit ninja'd there... stick this in before scout and graph's list of comments

i may be wrong, but i think the "new gui" you're showing there is just the netbook version of 11.04 which uses Unity rather than the desktop edition.

if you decide on ubuntu, it's probably a better idea to wait until 11.04 is released in five days rather than start with 10.10 and upgrade (unless you don't intend to upgrade, that is). after installing you will have to get Ubuntu restricted extras, a package which gives support for stuffs with restricted copyrights (like mp3, avi, java, flash, etc). for customising, firstly you should choose which desktop environment you want (ubuntu, kubuntu, xubuntu, lubuntu, etc). if you end up chosing ubuntu, which uses gnome, then a great place to go for themes and such is gnome art. there are plenty of other spots around the web which offer icons and things as well, so a few minutes of work can easily get you something like this:

wait, resume as in "quit the game, leave for a few hours, and come back to start it again"? that's a bit ridiculous for a small arcade game XD
i like michael's suggestion of a pause button with a countdown. that could work well. just make sure that the positions of the balls are shown during the countdown so the player can spend that time re-familiarising himself with all their positions.
nice job on the game so far, by the way. i like the added difficulty from variable horizontal ball speeds.

i haven't been here much over this past month either, for school reasons, so consider that question seconded.

"resume" options on an arcade game like this don't tend to be used often since the game is reflex based and pausing midway in would make resuming very difficult. if you feel like making it, though, then why not :P

ah, alright
i have kolourpaint, gimp, and *cough cough* photoshop, but i still prefer the first just because it's a layout i'm used to XD.

if you're using mspaint there are a few options out there with virtually the same layout and much more functionality. kolourpaint is one such option, but it's -nix only, so you should probably check out mtpaint instead.

as far as posting in other people's threads goes, the best way to be supportive is to ask questions and give suggestions. comments like "COOL!" may be encouraging, but a question is much more likely to spawn further discussion, which in turn helps him to come up with ideas for making the project better. i haven't been around to do much of this recently (for which i apologise), but i'm certainly going to try to get back into it as much as i have previously.

also, on a completely unrelated note:
mikehill, your avatar just made my having woken up today worth my time =D

Axe / Re: No Key Pressed

runer's syntax is correct. however, if you're making a helicopter game it would make a bit more sense (and probably make the code more legible later on when you return to it and can't for the life of you figure out what's going on) to leave the code in a helicopter crash or getkey(15) terminated loop with your gravity code executed every cycle and your 'helicopter moves upward' (::)) code in an If getkey(4):execute gravity code:End loop, or alternatively have an infinite loop containing If getkey(4):helicopter goes up code:else:gravity code:End

Blaster Master / sprite development
« on: April 15, 2011, 06:10:14 am »
just so you guys know, this project isn't dead. i've been REALLY busy and haven't had time to set aside for it, but i've still managed to squeeze in a bit of bugfixing and optimisation as well as sprite work here and there. here are a couple in-development graphics for your viewing pleasure (more will come at some point).

EDIT: which of the tower designs in the first picture is your favourite?
