indeed.
noobnonin, please don't necropost (that is, post a response in a thread that has been dead for more than a couple of months, let alone years as this one has been).

another option would be to have multiple separate banners and have one chosen at random when the page is loaded, but that still requires all the work of actually making a second or third :P

what exactly are you trying to ask? most text editors have a "find and replace" function which can swap one string anywhere it occurs in a document for another specified string. if you want a more complex transformation, you will need to use something which supports regular expressions. the two options i would suggest for something like that would be sed (if you're using a unix-like system, including osx), or perl, which is a scripting language with fantastic regex support and runs on all the major operating systems.

Hayleia, be careful to avoid insults and sarcasm. they are both disallowed and counter-productive to you getting your point across.

^this

also, having an option for racing against AIs is fun and can still be very simple (think excitebike), so maybe you could try your hand at adding them in after everything else is done?

I also do not believe in evolution, and that's because I've done a ton of study on it. ;)

[...]

As much as people will deny it, evolution is basically a religion on it's own, with all the poor evidence it has.

do you ever get sick?  if so, you are experiencing first-hand the effects of evolution. over the years, you and your ancestors have built up immunities against germs and viruses. because you are (relatively) long-lived, quite a bit of this adaptation can happen dynamically (though mutations have also played a very large part in the development of the human immune system). bacteria and viruses cannot adapt "on the fly" like this, however, and thus have to rely solely on these mutations to continue getting around your immune system and successfully infecting you. the fact that you continue to get sick, despite having already encountered and defeated the parents/grandparents/great grandparents and so on of these diseases is proof that they are continuously evolving.

Banner update idea:

It's a bit rushed, but I managed to move TI-Boy elsewhere (right next to the black guy's eye that seemed cut-off) to make space for the HP Prime. I didn't add the ClassPad 400 yet, though, due to lack of programs and support for it (thanks to its slowness). An FX-9860GII behind the rest of the calcs wouldn't hurt, though.

cool! i'll have to stick the hp-prime in there somehow, then. that seems like a good spot for it.

* shmibs thinks that making a topic can actually be counter-productive for some people.
it can lead to people getting distracted by visuals and going along with what other people have to say, trying to pack in features, and never actually creating a finished product.

i love the behind-tile masking =D. how are you managing that? just drawing less of the player sprite if there's a tile in front?

« on: September 25, 2013, 04:43:55 pm »
I mean, most technologies should decrease in value over the years unless they become collector items, right?
Have you tried to purchase the latest Macbook model? It's way more expensive than its predecessors, i can assure you! :P
As to the headphones, i really can't complain that much as i've lately bought myself a very cheap chinese pair for only  5€uros,Yeah! (My daughters have screwed-up all my good old headphones!).  :'(

... headphones like those sound fantastic and last for years, ...
Well, it depends. You don't have children yet do you? ;)

not yet )=
dj doesn't either, though :P

yeah, it's almost entirely because of those dumb "beats" things. before, the only pricey headphones people could get in a target or store like that were from bose, and they don't flood things with advertising etcetera. whoever it was that came up with those dumb things, though, also marketed them well enough to sucker lots of people into buying them, and then, once people were "used" to paying more for headphones, all the other companies started raising prices as well. my advice is what it's always been: get something higher-end (but none of the "audiophile" stuff. something in the 100-200 USD price range) from audiotechnica, sennheiser, or some other equivalent company that's been around as long. headphones like those sound fantastic and last for years, and those companies have warranties and let you send them in to be repaired for a fee even after the warranties expire.

EDIT: the smaller, light-weight stuff usually isn't a good idea, but even they are pretty durable. i've had a pair of these for about a year and a half now and used them every other day when i'm at work for hours at a time, and they're still working fine (despite my having lost their carrying pouch and just tossing them in with other things instead X_X).

* shmibs recommends that people head to ticalc.org, try playing a bunch of different things, and see what seems the most fun as a good place to start
good luck, everyone!
