seemingly inexplicable things like that happen fairly often on TI's hardware, and, like art said, usually the only way to fix it is by resetting things. if even overwriting the operating system doesn't do anything, though, you should post about the issue somewhere. there isn't much 68k activity around here, but someone might be able to help you out all the same.
as for calculators, i like the prizm much more, because of how open it is to writing programs. if you are going to be using it only as a device for playing games, though, then an nspire, with it's larger available library, is probably the better option.

pretty much anything in there is something you can delete without missing. the periodic table, and that one app that does trig calculations, are the only things you might find useful. everything else is either a language pack or completely worthless (read: a flash app created to display animated coin flipping). if you ever do go missing something, though, you can download them all again from here.

there isn't really any precedent, so do what you like. it would probably be less confusing to have one thread, though.

puppy is made to be less intensive than either of the suggestions you just gave. it's purpose is to be a light-weight desktop that is booted live with persistence.

for parties, i'd say the original SSB for N64. the other two just feel sluggish in comparison because of too much animation smoothing etcetera.
for co-op, i'd say dynasty warriors. the actual fighting dynamics aren't that great, but there is a bit of strategy involved, and there's something very satisfying about smashing through a group of 50 enemies at once.

* shmibs would usually say that this /\/\ is the exact opposite of what one should do. when working with a big project, planning things out beforehand will almost always save you having to rewrite everything once or twice. also, saving fun bits like titlescreens for last and getting main game engines out of the way first will help to keep you motivated. however, too much planning things out and not enough actually writing will demotivate as well, as it pushes back the yielding of visible results. it's a difficult thing to balance, which is why so many projects get dropped.

zstart still has a fail-safe startup mode, so they might get around it if they're lucky; it's much less likely that they'll be able to bypass a hardware check, as they'd have to know axe and be able to pinpoint the line that does the checking. a check like that could be useful for other things as well, like a pokemon game that wants to determine if a pokemon has been traded or not. oh, and this isn't the wrong section, per se. it would be better to post here, though.

that along with some "prevent more than three ratings per half hour" rule or something like that would be helpful. i have no clues if something like that is even feasible, though, so i suppose it goes on the stack of ideas along with the 10% rule for spam.
they are both things that can be useful but can also be taken advantage of far too easily.
