General Calculator Help / Re: New CX CAS OS......Worth upgrading?
« on: December 11, 2013, 03:35:54 pm »
With 3.6, you get the highest compatibility with Lua programs, but you permanently lose the right to use Ndless 3.1. I don't recommend upgrading.

As for the hardware revision, check the back of your calculator for the serial number. The end is the most important thing. For example, mine ends with P-0411B, meaning that it was manufactured in April 2011 and is hardware revision B.

My version of hardware ends in E.......Can I still run Ndless? :)

I do have the 3.6 OS now though.

General Calculator Help / Re: New CX CAS OS......Worth upgrading?

Every news post about the 3.6 says the same thing : it blocks everything (Ndless and what it gives, nLaunch, downgrading) and since TI provided a lot of effort in that, they didn't improve anything else that much.
So, not worth downloading and conflicts (like big conflict) with good (like very good) software.

This except if you have 3.2.4 and J-hardware revision. In that case, you don't have Ndless and such so you may think "I don't care". But it is still not advised to upgrade because of the lack of useful new features and because even if downgrading is impossible on both OSes, it is still more possible with 3.2.4 (due to it having less protections).

Also, if you have 3.1 (or a 3.2 that is not 3.2.4), there's the possibility to install 3.6 without screwing everything up, and also to install a switching pack that would allow you to switch between 3.1 and 3.6 without needing a computer. But you won't manage that with the usual way of upgrading, you need to follow precise steps.

Hi,

Yeah, my CX CAS had 3.2.4 on it :(

I downloaded & upgraded to 3.6 man.........DANG

Well, I hope that the MePro "like" program being developed will be compatible with this.

I'd be cool with it.

By the way, I don't know what "Ndless" is and am not a Lua coder.....
Did I just screw myself or not?

Thanks & please Forgive my ignorance.....I returned my "new" calculator from The Bach company
back to TI & the model they gave me had the 3.2.4 OS on it....I don't know if it's the J hardware version..
How can I tell & would this help me insofar as programs for the CX CAS is concerned?

General Calculator Help / New CX CAS OS......Worth upgrading?
« on: December 10, 2013, 04:47:44 pm »
Hi everyone,

Sooo...3.6  Is this worth downloading AND will it conflict with any really good software created by some of your folks?

Thanks,
Stefos

@Stefos and @dislexicengineer

Jim Bauwens and I are working on improving (actually, recreating) the whole framework that powers FormulaPro.
Once we're done with that, it'll take very little time to get an "MEPro"-like for the Nspire, I believe :)

Hi Adriweb & Jim Bauwens,

Let me know what I can do to facilitate this process.

MePro is an awesome program & would make the CX CAS the most sophisticated graphing calculator to date.

Regards,
Stefos

Yes, you have an E, which is safe and is not locked down. (One of my Nspires is E, and I have Ndless and nLaunchy on it).

The 3.2.4 and 3.6 OS's were found hidden on TI's website. I don't know why it still gives normal users version 3.2.3. Never install 3.2.4, since it's completely locked down. And don't install 3.6 without using nLaunchy 2.3.

Here's some news items about these locked down OS versions and hardware revisions:
http://ourl.ca/19743
http://ourl.ca/19500
http://ourl.ca/19073

Yeah...My last CX CAS was a 3.2.4 from The Bach Company....scoundrels.

I won't upgrade until someone here says it's cool.

Thanks,
Stefos

J and K calcs (the last char at the end of their serial number) cannot run Ndless nor be downgraded below OS 3.2.4 (or even 3.6). If you ever need some Ndless programs like mViewer and have such calc, then you're screwed. TI totally locked them down.

So...Is that "E" on the back of my calculator indicative of the "J or K" in which you speak ?

Also, I see you mentioned 3.2.4 & 3.6 OS's respectively........TI's site says 3.2.3 is the most current
Where are you getting this info from please & IF it's official TI OS's you're referring to, Why isn't TI posting them?

Thanks,
Stefos

37
But they'll send you a K (or higher?) revision calculator.

What is a "K" calculator?

When I turn the CX CAS around I found a P-0612E code on the back?

Version was 3.2.0XXX

What is the value & difference between this and non "K" CX CAS calculators?

By the way, Any knowledge of an MEPRO type of program for the CX CAS? :)

Thanks,
Stefos

Hi everyone,

UPDATE: Got my new Nspire CX CAS from TI directly......The issue is completely resolved BUT the connector is still loose.

So, If you buy an TI Nspire CX CAS from any company other than TI directly, Check for this pixelation problem
on screen & call TI immediately.......They'll send you a new one.

P.S. My new Nspire's button are also tighter than the flimsy feeling one I bought from The Bach Company as well.

It does seem The Bach Company got a bad batch of TI Nspire CX CAS's.........Look out for bad hardware.

Update:

I talked with T.I. tech support again and they are now rushing out the new CX CAS! :)

It will take 5-7 business days as opposed to 3-4 weeks yesterdays tech support guy said.

Hopefully, this new one will not give me pixelation issues like my last 2 did.

The company I bought my calc from is called The Bach Company.....Don't buy from them unless you want my hassle.
It definitely appears as though they got a bad batch & can't tell the difference.

Hey folks.....Guess What?

I got my Calculator back again from a Company recommended from T.I.'s website: The Bach company

I still have the same issues!!!!!

What the HECCKKK????

I spoke with TI's tech support & they gave me a RMA #........I have to send it off to them asap to get a fresh one from them within 3-4wks
they said.

Do Not buy from The Bach Company!  Nice people but seemed clueless as to my particular technical issue.
It seems they DID get a bad batch of calculators & the owner of the company is playing stupid...."I've never heard of an issue like that"

Whatever.....You've been forewarned! LOL
Stefos

P.S. My car's engine might have seized on me today also.......Sucks brothers.

Hi Spiro (Sounds like a fellow Greek to me! ahahha),

Thank you!

I actually looked into this but it's for electrical engineering :(

Oh well!

Thanks again,
stefos

Hi DJ,

Yeah man...I got it YESTERDAY!

I returned it today.......I told the customer service lady what's happening....She said
they'd replace it with a new one & refund my shipping.

I wish TI made an engineering app like the MePro for the TI Nspire...It would be perfect.

Any recommendations?
Thanks again,
Stefos

Hi everyone,

You might want to be aware of this:

I returned my TI Nspire CX CAS back to the seller today and want a brand new one....Why?

Where the battery charger cord (which connects to the wall) connects to the calculator, the connection is loose when connected & When I wiggle the inserted cable it caused pixelation problems on the screen/interface of the CX CAS right below the connection point on the calculator.

Furthermore, The CX CAS has a very cheap feel to it.  I ordered a guard & screen protectors from amazon.com to help keep it in great condition when I get my new one next week.

Just an FYI!
Stefos.......Unreal man, that sucks!

Hi everyone,

THANK YOU for your kindness!  I tried to get in touch with Da Vinci, the dudes who made MePro but they went under!
I can't find them at all anymore.........Maybe knocking on their door would help IF they were around.

I'm actually an inventor, of sorts, and wanted to have the CX CAS inspire by my side as I use pencil & paper actually
to draw the "looks" of the item in mind & then desire to consider different costs like:
R & D
Fabrication
Materials strength
What particular material to use?  Plastic, Aluminum, etc.

Regarding this:
"Quote"
Well, EEPro and MEPro for the TI-89 are pretty much the same thing, with different set of formulas/content.
EEPro has been recreated for the Nspire, see here : http://tiplanet.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=11136&lang=en
(official annouce : http://ourl.ca/16446  github repo : https://github.com/adriweb/EEPro-for-Nspire )

You can even create your own FormulaPro with your set of equations : http://education.bwns.be/FormulaPro/

There has been some non-public work to recreate MEPro, however, the architecture is a bit more complex for the default DB and thus it never saw the light publicly...
It's planned for the future, though. (But no ETA !)

Who has been working on an MEPro program please? I'd be happy to help.

Can you kindly let me know?

Also, Can Mechanical Engineering equations be constructed?

I just got the CX CAS so please, forgive my overt ignorance!!!!!!

EVERYONE.....Thank You!  I appreciate you!!
stefos

P.S. Does anyone know of any TI 84 programs that simulate MEPRO? :)

Thanks again,
stefos

45
Hi everyone,

I'm new here so please don't slam me!  ;D

I just wanted to know if a program for the TI Nspire handheld exists which mimics the ME Pro found on the TI 89.

I called TI & the Tech dude said essentially, "You can put in the formula and get the answer."
This obviously isn't the same as ME Pro.

Any help would be appreciated......
stefos

P.S. Can the Nspire CX CAS run TI 84 programs at all?  I ask this because of the Nspire CAS's TI-84 interchangeable faceplate.

Thanks again,
stefos
