think the 86 for vars, minus the 8 character limit.

The only I/O commands at all, besides program(a,b) a and b being input are request(string, var) and requeststr(string, var) which bring up text boxes. fortunately for me, that is exactly what a text-based game uses. the request commands weren't added until 2.0, though. I had 1.7 until I upgraded and it wasn't there before.

BTW secants, cosecants and cotangents work on the nspire, unlike most other calcs.

Title screens would probably be the only graphics, unless someone writes something like axe. I would definitely switch almost immediately.

ROM Hacking and Console Homebrew / Re: My beta hack

Hmm...I wonder if I will be good enough to play it...I'm not so good at smw. Much better at hedgewars and Worms

If what's posted is true, it sounds great! not super hard like some, but not super easy either!

I hope that's right. Matrices make data storage so much cleaner, having only one save variable instead of 10.

Unfortunately, pictures aren't very available at the moment due to TI's Lack of picture support. It could have fancy title screens hand drawn in the geometry menu, but unless I'm missing something big there's no way to store it.

It worked fine for sending with 2.0 for me on Linux Mint.

TI-Nspire / NSpire Text Based Game Engine
« on: April 26, 2010, 12:24:47 pm »
I'm working on a text-based game creator for the nspire. If you've ever played Voodoo castle, Zork, or Thy Dungeonman (Try it on homestarrunner.com) you know what these are.

It will be written in BASIC, using mainly the RequestSTR command. I plan on making a wizard that will make games for you as well. One problem I've encountered is retrieving data from matrices. How do you do it on the nspire?

I hope I get some feedback on this.

TI-Nspire / Re: CAS OS on Standard TI-nspire [development idea]

Now I'm glad I updated to 2.0!

I like the Idea I can reboot the calc at any time. Is it hardware based? It would be lots easier for resetting crashed ASM programs!

My main reson for never learning asm was that it was a pain to set up the environments to do so. I can work with C fairly decently, and I don't think the code would give me much trouble, but the hours it takes to set up just take too long (talking from DS development here) and the command line editors have little or no documentation.

I'll probably check out the guide. Maybe I could get started now!

TI-Nspire / Re: Use of OTG on the nspire possible?
« on: April 26, 2010, 12:06:33 pm »
Yeah, like TI-Boy didn't work at all. Even in silver edition they didn't emulate those ram pages :P. They cut way too many corners.

However, they do deserve a little credit. They didn't call the new one an emulator.

General Calculator Help / Re: How to get virtual calculator?
« on: April 26, 2010, 12:01:17 pm »
I personally really like Virtual TI. It's windows only, but it has skin support and can link to calcs directly through the black or parallel link cable. It also, I've heard, has sound support!

I'm not sure, but when you select Canada on their site it takes you to the US one, and says that you should use country select outside of US/Canada, so maybe it's the same price for you!

EDIT: Remember, though, their emulator is worthless. It isn't really emulating the nspire, just the OS ported to windows. It's no good for ASM development. Just stick to goplat's for that stuff.

No, it didn't. I remember playing the wii port, and being annoyed I couldn't shoot at the guy standing on a higher platform. However, the different height walls were still very nice. Maybe there could be an aiming mechanism that doesn't require camera movement, eg. moving crosshair at buttonpush, but movement when not pushed

BTW at the moment education.ti.com is selling them along with the PC emulator for $10 apiece, in the old color scheme. You might want to pick one up now, as they might bump the price back to $40, where it was before the touch came out. Personally, I'm still deciding if I want one, and I'll wait to see what people use it for. Hopefully, they'll be cross compatible for asm, or we'd have a pretty big mess on our hands!

EDIT: I just got another idea for a USB addon that would rock: USB Video card. We could add on a GPU, possibly an external monitor as well! (I'd rather just have it help out with 3D on the Calc screen though) This could give us true OpenGL capabilities, possibly!

a USB hub, 3G Modem, USB Video Card, USB sound card + integrated speakers, and Bluetooth. I don't think that's a calculator anymore..... ::) More like a Grayscale PDA with good math capabilities.

Plus, I don't know if that method really works. I just saw it somewhere. It could short the USB connector if you do it wrong and possibly kill the calc, or at least the USB connector.

Yeah. I have the URL Bookmarked, so someone can email me for the URL. My email is in my profile.

Be warned that the Oses don't come with the boot2 .img files in them. I don't know why it's not there, but it works just fine in the emu with a later version's boot2.
