Yeah true.

That said I noticed a lot more programs that are great coming out lately. Back in late 2007 until mid 2009, there was practically nothing getting featured on ticalc.org anymore. It reminded me the end of 2001 until late 2002. Good to see things are picking up again.

It is absolutely appalling that TI is doing everything in its power to keep real third-party development from taking place for the Nspire line, especially considering that all the communities like the one at Omnom have ever done as far as the company's bottom line is concerned is move more of their calculators.

Honestly, I can't blame them for trying to block ASM/C programs.  They are being pressured by the education market to block these programs.  Their decisions are greatly based on the opinions of teachers. :(

You mean Omnomnimaga...er Omnomnomni...er... Nomnimaga...er OMNIMAGA? :p

The only thing they do is making calcs less attractive to students. A lot of them use them for maths, but they like to use them for games and other stuff too, besides classes. Otherwise, I doubt they really find paying $100 for the thing justified. I hope if TI wins the Nspire war that they'll still sell 84+ and 89 calcs, though.

EDIT: Apcalc it seems like you approve their decision the way you are talking x.x

Personally, if it's really the case, why didn't they start in 1994 when Zshell came out?

I thought that Omnom was an acceptable shorthand form of Omnimaga.

Sorry if I commited any sort of heresy. :)

I don't know of any students who bring their calculators out at inoppurtune times at all, especially not just to play a game.  I don't think that that's happening very often.  I think that kids just take them out at times when there's nothing else to do during the day--otherwise, teachers just tell them to put it away.  It's easy to discern between using a calculator for calculations and playing a game.

Still, it's not surprising that teachers are bitching about "extracurricular" calculatorial capabilities--teachers are a stuffy lot.

So long as their hands are clean, TI seems to have a semi-nonchalant attitude concerning development for most of their line.  I think it's because they know they stand to benefit from it.

You're suggesting something like Send(9 on the 83?
It would be rather difficult to find on the Nspire, since the OS is so large. x.x

Right now, the way Ndless works reminds me a bit the way we ran ASM on our TI-73, 82, 85 or 92. We would send an hacked backup file to our calc, which would install a shell. With the 83, there was an ASM command, but no token was assigned to it, so you had to do Send(9 instead of Asm(.
