While it is sad that this has to come a week earlier due to recent events, I also must admit it is necessary, unfortunately, but that I hope it will work and effectively make Omnimaga a more friendly community.

The recent events showed us that some work still needs to be done when it comes to IRC and Forums Moderation, so I would also use this opportunity to ask that an IRC Bots links the rules to users who have been warned such as the people who were warned recently. This is a good measure with the objective of reminding these people that such acts cannot be repeated.

In addition, what happened last night should have never happened, once again, in my honest opinion, because someone (an IRC op) should have kicked the people who were bashing languages from IRC, instead of letting it happen and have DJ O warn those people through PM some time later. If the action was taken immediately it would not only show other people an example and stop the problem right away. Kicking is not a big issue, because people can come back again and I am sure that whomever was kicked would just stop the discussion right there and change the subject.

Finally, I'd like to say that I was one of the persons included in the last night events and so I also have to say, that if I had been kicked, I would have stopped the discussion and just give it up. Seriously, I think kicking and warning is more effective than banning. Especially because in my case, my next ban will be Permanent Ban.

Thank you for your attention.

I'm sad it has come to this, but I do see why it has to happen. Hopefully the summer goes well for omnimaga

In addition to that, near the end of the invasion we had to witness criticism from regulars from another TI calculator channel I will not name due to how we handled the situation, and they tried to force their site mentality on ours as facts, which added extra tension in #omnimaga.

Yeah, while its good not to point fingers like you just showed, I think that "other websites" would be better than "other TI channels" because there's only 1 other major calculator channel, and one other that is frequented at much less so of a pace.  It kinda gives it all away :P
Well there are actually 4 major TI channels, although two of them are more active than the others and one of the less active ones barely has any calc discussion. In fact, the latter has about 30 more users than any other existing TI chan.

And David, sorry, no bot linking to rules, unless it's triggered with !rules. People kept complaining the last time we did that and it became too annoying. Also I didn't kick you or anything because I do not have kick/ban powers (anymore)

I agree with !rules, I'd like it. And well we have 8 ops (DThought, Eeems, geekboy, Genolo, Juju, miotsatu, Netham and rcfreak0), not sure if that's enough, but it's just my opinion. I know this is not the topic and there is such a topic already, but AFAIK all of these are American causing some problems due to time issues.

Not sure if that would necessarily help with our issues, but yeah I'm getting off-topic.

There are supposed to be more ops, but they aren't on often anymore on IRC.

The key word here is "supposed", but who am I to judge #omnimaga moderation, it's very good and almost needless, but not permanent.

Yeah normally we rarely ever need any, and now with #omnimaga-spam being part of OmnomIRC it started to help a lot.

Nah don't worry about it. That week I think like 8 people went into language debates that went a bit far. I think it was just that people were in the mood to code, but happened to use different languages and were happy about the languages they used or pissed off at debugging others. Also the nDoom policy was gonna restart on July 1st regardless anyway.

Ugh, I remember this. I had the misfortune to join right in the middle of The Invasion, (I came because of Axe; I had never heard of nDoom.) And got on the recieving end of one of those daybans.notfun

Yeah X.x

I think like 5 new members who are active joined every week O.O. I bet a few sadly left due to the nDoom crysis, due to the constant drama. X.x In fact I hope this isn't why Mraklopaz left.

Crysis? O.O
Anyway, I've noticed that a huge number of the people on the member list aren't active in the least, which is a shame, especially as most of those never were.
