I got a TI-81
« on: October 17, 2008, 08:05:23 pm »
see title. 2400 bytes of RAM, 3 matrices with 6x6 max size allowed, no While/repeat/for( so you must use Lbl/Gotos for loops about half the speed of a TI-82/83/+ and 3x the speed of a TI-80. Came with the instruction manual today from Ebay. I must tell you, TI didn't changed much, because the manual layout is almost the same than the TI-83+ one XD

The only annoying this is that to quit the program editor you must hit 2nd+CLEAR and there are no memory menu, as real vars and matrices won't take any RAM, meaning it immediately asks you if you want to reset the calc so it's a bit scary

I find this calc to look a bit better than the old TI-82 for some reason

Yeah. Since I don't have a lot of money atm I am starting with the oldest calculator models though. TI-85 is next, unless I find another model for extremly cheap

Picture of my current calcs and manuals (I also have another SE quick start guide which looks the same as the SE one in the pic, but it's in french)

As for calculator models:
TI-81->1990
TI-85->1992
TI-82->1993
TI-80->1995
TI-92->1995
TI-83->1996
TI-86->1997
TI-89->1998
TI-92 Plus->1998
TI-73->1999
TI-83 Plus->1999
TI-83 Plus Silver Edition->2001
TI-73 Explorer->2002
Voyage 200->2002
TI-82 STATS->2004
TI-84 Plus->2004
TI-84 Plus Silver Edition->2004
TI-89Tit->2004
TI-82 Stats.fr->2005
TI-Nspire->2007
TI-Nspire CAS->2007
TI-83 Plus.fr->2008

As for models succession/replacments it would be something like this:
TI-81->TI-82->TI-83->TI-83+->TI-84+
TI-82 STATS->TI-82 Stats.fr
TI-83 Plus.fr
TI-83+SE->TI-84+SE
TI-80->TI-73->TI-73 Explorer
TI-85->TI-86->TI-89->TI-89t
TI-92->TI-92+->Voyage 200
TI-Nspire
TI-Nspire CAS
Correct me if I am wrong. TI-82 STATS series replaced the TI-82 in france, which were sold until much later than in other countries. It's a TI-82 with all TI-83 functionality and a CATALOG. Basically you get the TI-82 keypad and RAM but with TI-83 functionalities. It's supposed to run 82 and 83 programs. TI-82 Stats.fr is a french version of the TI-82 STATS and TI-83+.fr is a french version of the TI-83+, but without the need of the Français APP, meaning if you speak french you save 16 KB of archive over the normal TI-83+. I have absolutely no clue what's the difference between the TI-73 and the TI-73 Explorer.

yeah http://datamath.org/ has alot of good info on past calc models.
If you click on graphing/symbolic calcs you can see a list of all the ti models and revisions.
