Computer Usage and Setup Help / Ubuntu
« on: April 20, 2011, 12:04:32 am »
I just installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my old Pentium 4 desktop tonight, and I was wondering if anybody could direct me towards some good guides to help me get started. (I'm very new to Linux.) Thanks in advance.  8)

Other / Homebrew/Modding Club
« on: April 17, 2011, 05:25:46 pm »
Sup Omni.
So I've been thinking about starting a club at my school pertaining to hardware and software modding/homebrew. It's a very broad topic, so hopefully it would be able to attract somewhat diverse group (of nerds).
Has anybody here had experience with forming/participating in this sort of a club, and if so, how do meetings usually go? Meaning how is time allocated in the schedule? Also, should individuals work on their own projects, or should people work in groups? And, should people have a time frame to finish their projects within, or work at their own pace?

Feedback is highly appreciated.  :)

TI Z80 / Axe Tetris

Wait, before you start reading play this in the background.

I noticed that Tetris hasn't yet been made in Axe (as far as I know- correct me if I'm wrong), so I decided to make it. The game really is pretty much done, but I'm considering adding in a high-score feature. I can share the source code if anybody wants it, but it really isn't that great. Oh, and it runs in 6mhz mode.

Comments? Things I can change/improve on in it?

...now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to create a first person shooter in Powerpoint.

Miscellaneous / Weird File Names
« on: October 08, 2010, 10:43:59 pm »
Alright, so I've been noticing lately that my C:\ drive contains a large number of very oddly named files, and it seems like it keeps getting more and more of them every couple of days. I am almost positive that it is not a virus (Norton would detect it if it was, and my computer is acting normally). Does anybody have any insight on what this might be? Also, I'm running Windows Vista 64 bit SP2.

Other Calculators / Ballpoint pen mark on ti-84 screen
« on: September 23, 2010, 05:45:15 pm »
So after leaving my calc in my backpack, it appears to have gotten a pen mark on the screen, and I can't seem to get it off. It doesn't affect the usability of the it though- it's just annoying. Does anybody know of a good solution to wipe it off? (without damaging the LCD of course)

TI Z80 / Project Idea- Outrun Z80
« on: September 21, 2010, 06:53:36 pm »
So, I've been playing a ton of Outrun lately. For those of you who have never heard of Outrun, here is a video of it
. Basically, it is one of the best- if not the best- arcade racing games in existence, and I would like to port it over to 15 mhz calcs (I don't know how well I could do with 6 mhz). At the bottom of the post is a picture of Lotus Turbo Challenge for the ti-83+. It looks alright, but there are some things about it that I would want different in the game. For starters, I think that I would want to have a much larger car sprite that changes depending on which way you are steering. Along with that, I would like to implement hills and grayscale, four-level being ideal. Also, I would not like a stationary camera, but one that moves along with the car. Before I even get started, I would like to know would this be possible in Axe? I should probably also mention that it would not use anything like a Mode-7 type of engine.

I do not think that I would be able to make such a game by myself, however. I do not know how to go about creating a racing game of this kind (by that I mean storing the tracks in memory and drawing them onto the screen). If this game is indeed possible, would anyone be willing to help?

General Discussion / RICK ASTLEY IS BACK
« on: September 05, 2010, 10:49:22 pm »
So, Rick Astley just came out with a new single (well, not just came out- it came out in June). Apparently it's his first single in 17 years(!!!). Go watch it and pay tribute to the king  ;D.
Oh, and in case you were wondering his career got started up again because of Rickroll, so we have a certain imageboard to thank for this...

TI Z80 / AXLE - 2011 Axe Platformer Contest
« on: September 05, 2010, 12:29:52 am »
So I'm finally posting a thread about my Axe parser contest entry. I do not know if I will finish it by the 16th (but most likely a demo will be done), and if that is the case I will continue to post progress afterward. I have attached the latest screenshot, showing off gravity and jumping (which is why it is in a very tall room). Please leave me feedback and give me suggestions about the game.

EDIT:
I'm reusing this topic for this year's contest entry, since I will be using the same sprites. However, I would like to assure everyone that it is an entirely new project and I'm working on it from scratch. I'm putting it here to show what the game is being based off of.

Also, It is being named AXLE. (spelled with all caps)
