TI Calculators / Re: Problem with emu8x

Did you dump the ROM image off of it? If not, you have to do that.

"rom" means the name of your dumped rom image.
Quote from: readme
ROM images of calculators are copyrighted by TI and may only be used by the owner of the calculator from which they were dumped. Because these ROM images are embedded in Emu8x, the application cannot be transferred.
You have to have one of the other calculators to use Emu8x, in other words.

Code Golf The Reboot #1 is almost over! Last chance to get those answers in!

All in favor of making Juju's counter the official counter for all non-calculator languages, say "aye."
All in favor of counting assembly as binary size, say "aye aye."
All in favor of counting TI-Basic and Axe as on-calc source size, say "aye aye aye."
All in favor of counting The Challenge Creator choosing the counting method, say "aye aye aye aye."
(all on separate lines of course)

My response:
aye.
aye aye.
aye aye aye.

There are several ways to score an entry that are generally used:
1) size in chars of source code
2) number of bytes in source code
And finally
3) output size in bytes of final compiled program.
I think that the host should have a choice as to what scoring method to use. :)

I don't think number 3 is a good idea, since some languages have distinct advantages over others in binary size.
I recall some one saying over irc (forgot who might have been you) that "choosing your language is part of the puzzle, each has its pros and cons". :P
And no that was not a direct quote from irc, I forgot when the original was said  :P
Yes, but compiled size makes for an unfair advantage. For example, assembly is not efficient in source, but the binaries are extremely small by comparison. We want this fair, although language choice is important.

Sure! I'll add you after JWinslow.

Since the main contest in this forum at the current time is Code Golf, this thread will be the place for the information, discussion, and planning of Code Golf.

Rules of Code Golf
  • Make a program that completes the challenge prescribed on Monday in as few source bytes as possible.
  • All programs must be PM'd to the challenge creator or one of the Community Contests board moderators by 11:59:59 PM ET the following Saturday.
  • Winning code for each language will be posted on Sunday
  • Don't be a rule breaker/bender (see this)
Challenge Creator Rotation
To keep the work load off of one person, there will be a rotation of people making Code Golf challenges each week. If you want to be in the rotation, reply in this thread. The current rotation is:
1) @pimathbrainiac <- On deck
2) @c4ooo
3) @Juju
4) @JWinslow23
5) @Ivoah
6) @LDStudios <- Current challenge

Some rules for challenge creators
  • The challenges must be open to all languages
  • It is preferred that the challenges give calculators some advantage, since this is a calculator forum (eg. key input based challenges)
  • Challenges must be posted on Monday
  • Challenges must be posted in this board on Omni. If you wish to cross post to other forums, that is fine
  • You will receive a PM one week before your turn to post a challenge
  • If you can not prepare a challenge and post it by monday of your given week, message one of the community contests board moderators. You will be skipped in the rotation, and your turn will come back to you when the rotation rotates back to you
  • Challenges must be plausible to complete in a week (so make a platformer is probably not the best idea)
  • Make sure your OP is updated with the overall ranking, and the language ranking (format seen here). While the board mods can edit your post for you if you, please don't make us do that
  • At the end of your week, prepend "[ENDED]" to the topic title in the OP, so people know it's over

News / Contests Forum Restructure and Code Golf
« on: June 05, 2015, 07:20:22 pm »
The Contests forum has now been moved from News to Calculator Community. In addition, there is now a "community contests" subforum where any of your own contests/challenges can go! Good luck to everybody in all the contests sure to follow!

While your at it, check out Code Golf - The Reboot. It's a reboot of an old series of contests done by JWinslow23, now done by pimathbrainiac (and others in subsequent iterations).

Since this restructure started due to a discussion specifically about Code Golf, the new moderators of the new community contests board will be JWinslow23 (who started Code Golf), c4ooo (Who prompted the restart of Code Golf), and pimathbrainiac (Who actually restarted Code Golf). All three of those listed, as well as some of the current active members, will be posting the weekly Code Golf here on Omni. For those who don't have an account here, that's fine! If you want to participate, send your solutions to the week's Code Golf organizer via IRC or another site. If you can't contact them, contact one of those listed in this post, and your solution will be passed along. More information can be found here.

Gaming Discussion / Re: An Indie Game Demo I Found - CrossCode
« on: June 04, 2015, 02:45:33 pm »
Well, they updated the demo to be less featured than the old one was. You can use wayback to get the old demo, which has the first dungeon and some overworld stuff. Also, yeah, I don't early access games, so I'm not putting any money on it yet, but when it is finished, if I can, I'll buy it.

Is the development version on http://axe.eeems.ca still usable, out of curiosity?

Apparently certain aspects of Axioms have been broken according to this post on CW. The same code compiles on an older version of Axe, but not the newer versions, and it's an Axiom thing. I haven't gotten around to testing to see if it is every axiom or Glib itself, but I thought you should know, since the discussion is going on elsewhere.

Gaming Discussion / An Indie Game Demo I Found - CrossCode
« on: June 04, 2015, 12:57:17 am »
So while looking for some freebie stuff to play on GameJolt, I stumbled upon a little gem of a demo for a game called CrossCode. Holy crap this demo is probably the best demo for any game I've ever seen. Seriously, play it yourself. The premise is very SAO-esque, but it doesn't feel like an SAO ripoff (since you appear to be the only real person trapped in the game). As for the gameplay, think top down Zelda mixed with those disk thingies from Tron. The graphics are also beautiful. The demo has the first little bit, a dungeon/puzzle to play through, and a little bit of open world exploration. I suggest you check out the demo. It is amazing.
The official website is here.

Anime and Manga / Re: Webseries Anime: RWBY (red white black yellow)

Just binge-watched RWBY. Two things:
That thing with Yang at the end.
RIP Monty. We may never see another season of RWBY again.
