Normally, if you leave upgrade/check for updates options unchecked, you should be fine. Follow lkj advice as well. Else there is the TI-Nspire Student Software, but that's not free.

There have been numerous tests done in the past and TI's softwares don't attempt to force an update, although everytime you start them up, the update boxes will be checked again, so you have to uncheck them everytime.

In the worst case scenario, however, Jim Bauwens and Alberthrocks knew a way to check if TI forces updates  via some script, along with a way to block them by adding their URL to your hosts file:

Then it looks like you haven't followed the procedure correctly: you need to rename the file, on the computer side. Check the README.

Wait so this is what I did so far
Steps:
0) backed up my files
1) I have the 3.1.0.file so far on my CX
2) I tnoced the cas file and renamed to phoenix.tns
3) I made a new file called nlaunch and when I drop my.tns it upgrades my is or says that on top and LOOKS identical to how you upgrade your osI did rename the file  but it doesn't work. And how do you unchecked the box I followed the directions by renaming it but that's what it does

OK so I did what the link said and it was a .tcc but I removed the boot2 and changed it to phoenix.tns and it is a tns file but it did tell me I can change the content if I rename and I pressed yes. If there was something wrong in what I did please tell me what and how to fix and if I did it now please tell me what is next.
I am not going to put anything on my calc yet until I understand fully and make my own modified instructions so if you guys can tell me the next
step :) no rush if you guys are sleeping thanks for even helping me :D

Edit: also i am not sure where to put phoenix in. The only place i can make a folder is IN the documents folder and maybe the other folders inside the documents folder, but i can't make the nlaunch folder on the same level of documents so i am not sure what the read me is saying to put it in the root directory. Is the root directory just inside the document folder? Just a btw: i am using the ti-nspire computer link software

For an end-user, like you, the root directory is below/inside "My Documents".
If one day you want to investigate Ndless developpement, the "root" directory will be "/" and "My Documents" will be /documents/.

Thus, you need to make a directory name "nlaunch" (IIRC) inside "My Document", same level as "MyLib".

"My Documents" is the name by default of the "public root directory". So, depending on you language, yes, it's the most top accessible folder.

And after I make the nlaunch folder in the same level as mylib what should come up when I try to transfer the phoenix file in? An updating is process? Or what? (Sorry if that sounded mean I mean to say it with a humble and sincere tone)

Edit:also can you check 3 or 4 comments up(the making phoenix file) if the process was right?

Put the phoenix.tns file into the nlaunch folder. Nothing should come up after you send that file.

What you did so far is fine if you ran TNOC on the tcc file to remove the Boot2, renamed it to phoenix.tns, and the nlaunch folder is directly in My Documents.

Then download nlaunch.tns and place it into the same nlaunch folder on your calc.
