Nice, so I assume monsters will all be animated, right?
I am curious if certain of them could have some simple ai, like one step towards you, another random, one towards you, one randon, and so on? Will there also be slower monsters (moving every two turn)? Will there be some special moves from monsters as well?
ANother thing, I would suggest making sure when someone (you or enemy) attacks, to exit the walking loop to perform the code in question, that way it will always remain fast when you're moving around
