Miscellaneous / Re: webcomics

Currently, it's just xkcd and Megatokyo. I've read MANY comics in my time but these two are the only ones I have the time to keep up with. Megatokyo is just amazing and so many ways. Love the story, characters, and overall setting. The community is pretty epic too but I don't have time to be active there too.

Well, thought I'd give some updates since I had a little time to have worked on the sites and plan some stuff. (First post is all updated.)

Summary:
  • Removedfromgame.com is being changed. If you want to check out the old linux client thing, it will remain up and updated here.
  • Added in information about the image uploader, got rid of the Dragon Tavern site (it's still up but I've stopped playing the game and am not updating anymore), and made small changes to each site but nothing special.
  • Cleaned up my server a bit. Got rid of the old Pokewalker guide that I mirrored from Serebii and other random files.

Finally, the next thing I plan on working on is either the thumbnail feature of the img uploader or the new RFG.com. Depends on what I feel like doing more. Might be done later tonight.

What is it with technology dying when it's not in constant use?

My main PC won't turn on anymore after I was away from it for 2 weeks and my dad's computer stopped sending picture to the monitor when he was away for a couple months while my grandma's laptop died while she was on a vacation for a few weeks.
Not to mention the hard drive failure of calc84.

I rarely even turn my laptop off anymore out of fear. At least I got an external hard drive for Christmas so I won't be losing any data... but computers are expensive and I can't do much with just a hard drive when this laptop dies. =/

Hm... do you have a link to that userbar?

I can't think of a reason why it would slow down scrolling any since all the script's work will be done when the page loads and you'd have to refresh to see any updates like normal.

Not a problem. I hope to make a version of the Userbar site that doesn't need scripts later on but that will take some time. Until then, hopefully everyone moving from Imageshack to RFG will help loading problems enough.

Wut? Only limited to servers from one continent?!? That sux.

I really wish more games would do this. Do you know how most lag happens? People are connecting to server outside of their continent. It's plain fact that if the server is further away, it takes longer to send and receive information (lag) regardless of how fast your internet is. Personally, I'm getting sick and tired of the lag caused just by people saying 'I don't want to play on my continent's server'. Canada/US/Mexico on one server is fine, but I'm tired of the 2-5 sec lag from other continents completely.

However, that is kinda stupid that to get the French version means you're automatically stuck with the European servers. They should probably ask in the installer what continent you're in.

NECRO POST! =D
----------------
Just another check (now the the community is bigger) of anyone still playing Halo 3.
I'm still going strong and looking for more people to play with.

Also, I started map making yesterday and just finished a rough draft a few minutes ago (took a total of almost 10 hours) and would like to test it out some while I think up the finishing touches. (with my remaining $135 left in Forge)

Reminder: My gamertag is: Nyaar

It really scares the crap out of me that there are people who read a comic (that only complained about TI graphing calculators remaining at a high price despite the fact that the hardware hasn't really been changed in years) as "everyone is mad about TI's new OS" and then go on to actually argue about it.

Really? Just because the comic happened a bit after the new OS? Seriously, that whole discussion was a joke and not the funny kind of joke, the stupid kind.

Hm... good idea for a new function of my userbar site.
Also plan on revamping the 'progress' function.

However, I may not have time to get this done anytime soon so hopefully Kerm can help out.

Not a problem. ^^

Remember, if you guys can think of suggestions, let me know.

I plan on adding in the thumbnail feature later. After that, I'll have a page to view all the pictures uploaded by everyone.
Though, that's all the features I can think of at the moment.

The original idea was for it to be used for signatures but feel free to use it however you like.

For now the filesize limit is 10mb with no restrictions on length or width and I will be making sure the images are appropriate. (No porn or detailed instructions to illegal activities and such.)

These rules will be added to the home page later. Tired right now. ^^;

Couldn't sleep so I made a few adjustments. Added a logo, a favicon, and the rules.
Also, the logo links back to the upload form so you don't have to hit 'back' or anything anymore. (Don't know why I didn't have it set up like that in the first place.)

Thanks! Didn't take too much time, but that's because I didn't bother with any real graphics yet and used some already made code then heavily modified it to work for what we need right now.

Also, whoever uploaded that screenie... (I'm making a bet on Builderboy I was right!) that's freakin' epic!

(Maintenance killed my edit. Dx)

.:|BETA|:.
url: http://img.removedfromgame.com/

So, as you may have heard, with Imageshack having so many issues a new image uploader was suggested.
Well, I'm hosting an image uploader that anyone here at Omnimaga can use. It simply lets you pick an image to upload, then uploads it.
If nothing goes wrong, then it'll give you a screen with a direct link to the image and the bbcode for posting it in threads.
Also, it'll send me an email with the picture so I can make sure no one is uploading porn or anything.

Go ahead and test it out. Let me know of any problems and any suggestions you have.
Again, this is a beta so it's far from done but it works right now.

(Oh, and don't go around sharing this with everyone. I don't need a huge server load. It should be able to handle anything our members can deal out easily though.)

Personally, I've always put a reference to Omnimaga in all my programs including the readme.
Usually on the title screens, credits, etc.

I see nothing wrong with it and no one has said anything about it. (Then again, I was staff forever.)
