TI-Nspire / Re: CAS OS on Standard TI-nspire [development idea]

Exactly. Also, if ACT takes nspire off the list, they lose probably half their sales to 84+ sales instead. Double Anger!!!

How about an actual Civilization II Clone? I only say two since it used an isometric map, otherwise they never seemed that different.

One thing that I think is a must: Support for Multiplayer!!!!!

Have there actually been any kind of malicious programs written for crashing your calc, or is this only for badly written ones, that will crash your calc? The only real way I can see someone writing a virus like this would be a local friend, as most calc sites would most likely not put it up, having tried it out.

Not to discourage, I'm just asking.

Yeah, he has it backwards. CAS is allowed, as is the 89, on the SAT, but not on the ACT as it only goes to Algebra 2 for the Math section. Keyboard layout is an issue on both., although I can't really see why. Why does the key layout affect whether it's allowed or not, is what I wonder.

Anyways, I still maintain it's a bad idea, and I don't want to be sued for it! plus, I'd like for my nspire to still work for the ACT, at least for two more years. After that I don't really care, cause I'll be in college!

The new Intro screen reminds me of the logos on the older 5.25" floppy covers! Those kind of stripes sure bring back memories!

I think it's a bad idea because it will make the Nspire Non-ACT. This will get TI really mad, mad enough to actually do something about this kind of dev site rather than just a halfhearted letter. If you really want CAS, just wait for the 89 emulator! It already does it just fine, and no calc modding is necessary! (besides ndless of course)

Go for it!

I'm afraid I won't be much help for development as I don't have a calc of that kind available. By the way, don't cut yourself down! if you want to make an OS, determine the features you want, get some more, and plan what it will look like first. After you have a plan for what it will look like, then you start coding, and you'll have something worth coding for.

*Will steps off of his soapbox

So, for my suggestions.

For any decent OS, it must have the following capabilities to be of much use:

Program Launching
ASM Support
A nice GUI
A method of organization (it doesn't really matter what)

Some other, probably harder features

Built in Program editor
Notepad
separate files/tabs for programs
Picture support
Text files
Changing program names
Locking memory (Not sure if this is possible on 84+, but it came in really handy on the 86)
data editor (for matrices, strings, that kind of thing)
Calculating/graphing

With the second set of features, you could use this with the Start-Up app and never even see the Calc home screen!

I would try it, but my sis won't let me borrow her calc.

I would tell you to play Chrono Resurrection but........CoDs have more impact in that corner of Open Source Development than the calc community. It wouldv'e been awesome! Chrono trigger in 3D! For Free! On your PC! (No, I didn't intend for those to rhyme) The worst part is they kept working and made a closed demo, and someone made a youtube video of it!

Edit: Hehe, I just got a really cool idea for a profile pic. If I can make a SNES emulator, like I hope to, I could take a calc screenshot of the chancellor with that face!  :P

Yeah. Maybe that's why it ran so much slower than my other games on the Emu!

I just had a thought: Since Ndless is written mainly in java, how hard would a mac port be, considering the source is pretty much there? (Java being an interpreted language and all)

HedgeWars!!!!! It's a Worms Armaggedon Clone that completely blows wormux out of the water. Bonus: Open Source, so calcs are an (unlikely) possibility!

I personally love lunar magic. It's only for SMW (make sure you don't get All-Stars!) But it's extremely powerful and can generate roms or IPSs. It's also got a really nice gui.

Yeah, Chrono Trigger. It's the one dude that is taken over by Yakra, the Chancellor. I loved the face when I first saw it.

So did you write Axe Parser? It looks awesome, but I don't have an 83+ to try it out.

The way I see it, Star Ocean, Star Fox and other Strange games like that are the exception rather than the rule. They probably wouldn't even work well with a flashcart, and like you said, many well made emulators can't even load them. Plus isn't half of Star Ocean the Music anyways? Sound emulation on this would either be nothing or horrible.

Edit: yeah, something like AXE or NewProg would rock, and probably compile extremely quickly!

Hehe, I don't think I'm staff material. I am too irregular in my schedule. i am the exact opposite of OCD in about everything except programming. My room has a pathway, so it's clean, but my calc program has a bug, so it has now been moved from complete to pre-alpha stage.

Interesting Meme. How long has Omnimaga been around?
