News / 250000 posts since May 2005 & new yearly record for 2011
« on: October 07, 2011, 12:16:13 am »
Tonight Omnimaga forums have reached 250K messages if we count the 56000+ messages we had on Invisionfree. If we only include the messages from this SMF forum, Omnimaga is heading towards 200000!

Although activity has dropped since last Fall, September 2011 still managed to be the second most active September month in Omnimaga history, with close to 8000 messages, down from 9325 last year but far above September 2007's 2025 messages. In addition to that, because of the high activity last Winter, Spring and a still quite high level of it right now, 2011 marks a new record of new messages in one year, breaking last year's record of 87232 with still a few months to go. Last year shattered the old 2006 record of 30132 posts in a year.

After the Ndless craze in Early 2010 which lasted until OS 3.0.1 release, the TI-Nspire scene kind of stagnated afterward, despite the arrival of Lua, since a lot of Nspire users were Ndless users or programmers, and since Ndless and TI-Nspire news was our second biggest source of traffic after the TI-83+ series, this had a big impact on Omnimaga forum life in overall. However, since the past few months, there have been an increasingly higher focus on calculator development and programming discussion, which kinda balances things out in some ways. We hope that in the future the site (and the rest of the TI and Casio community) maintains such level of activity and releases.

Axe / Runer112
« on: October 05, 2011, 12:37:18 am »
Have you ever thought about releasing your Axe Raycaster and your Raycasting Axiom source code eventually by the way or was it into totally useless state? I thought it was awesome and it would really have been great for Axe coders to have an Axe raycaster axiom, not to mention I'm sure a bunch of people would find pretty creative ways to use it (eg I have yet to see a raycasting tunnel racing game or Illusiat raycaster remake for the 84+ series (on a side note several years ago I thought about making Illusiat 3D which was gonna be an xLIB pseudo-3D engine where you can only turn at 45° intervals, but diagonal movement being faster than horizontal/vertical posed problems)) like with Omnicalc sprite function and other things in the past. Sadly it was cancelled I think, or got suspended indefinitively, but I thought I would mention this because it has been a while since I heard about that raycaster engine and I believe in the recent past some people requested a raycaster routine or axiom for Axe.

Casio Calculators / Real Casio e-mail or scam?
« on: September 26, 2011, 05:49:46 pm »
Hi,

I got two Casio e-mails recently, such as one telling me to tell about my Prizm on Facebook now. However, it leads to mk2.netatlantic.com links instead of Casio ones. I wonder if anyone got them and if they know it's safe or not? Is it like TI and just a random site Casio uses to manage e-mail subscriptions?

It seems there were images in the e-mail too but I did not want to enable them, in case. Anyone knows if it's safe or not? I had something similar happening with TI before, but it turned out to be a newsletter. It has a casio email address, but I heard about email spoofing, before. Eg I received spam from [email protected] before.

News / Lua contest extended and the revival of zContest
« on: September 26, 2011, 02:27:47 pm »
For those who haven't noticed on TI-Planet and Inspired-Lua, they are currently running a TI-Nspire Lua contest, affiliated with Jarrety store, and the deadline recently got extended to November 7th. There are 3 TI-Nspire CX CAS prizes to win! You only have to create a Lua program for TI-Nspire in connection with one of these three categories:

To participate you must write a TI-Nspire Lua program that matches one of the following categories: Mathematics, Physics/Chemistry or Games. Only one program can be submitted. You need OS 3.0.1 or higher (preferably 3.0.2) to participate. Also, the contest is now open to the entire world instead of just France, although if your program contains text, make sure it is useable by someone who mainly speaks French.

More information about the contest can be found at the following links:
-Official contest page on Inspired-Lua (English and French)
-TI-Planet topic (French)
-Contest rules (French)

Besides this contest, there is a new z80 one that recently started on yAronet Z80 TI board. It is called zContest 2011. From 2006 to 2008 that forum ran zContest, but then it got discontinued. We are happy to announce it was finally revived 3 years later. It is also open worldwide and there are 3 categories: Pure TI-BASIC, hybrid TI-BASIC/Axe/BBC Basic and ASM. A game must be programmed.

For the prizes, the programmer that comes first in a category then wins against the other two first place programs will win a TI-Nspire CAS CX. The two other first place winners will get a TI-84 Pocket.Fr and the second place winners of each category will win a TI-76.Fr!

This contest is affiliated with TSPromotion. More info on how to participate are located below:

News / Staff music download section now open to 1000-post regulars
« on: September 25, 2011, 09:11:09 pm »
Since a few weeks ago, as you could see with YeongJIN_COOL, Omnimaga staff have started to allow non-staff members to upload their music in the downloads section. Basically, members who have at least 1000 posts on the forums now have the privilege of including their own music creations as well as video game covers with ours.

Unfortunately, there is currently no delimitation between staff and non-staff uploads, so they are all in the staff section, which is kinda misleading, but hopefully in the future they will be separated in another sub-section.

The rules are:

-No remix of other people music are allowed: Only your very own original creations or video game covers will be accepted. Remixes and covers of my own songs are fine, though, with my permission.
-You must have at least 1000 posts on the forums, outside the spam, intro and humor sections.
-You must have been active recently to be able to upload a song. If in the last two months you only posted about 30 times on the forums, you cannot upload.
-Maximum of 4 MB file size, no external link allowed.
-For compatibility reasons, only MP3 files are accepted.
-There is a certain quality control on what is uploaded on the site, as you could see with the calc downloads section. Basically if you upload a pitched up copy of The Most Relaxing Song Ever with out-of-sync Eminem vocals added on top of it, it will most likely not be accepted.
-No racial slur or any form of bigotry in the lyrics (if any) nor the title.

There is currently no information on if non-staff music is accepted in the radio and OmniPlayer2. Also note that it is possible that staff adds a quota to the maximum amount of songs that can be uploaded by non-staff members on the site (for example, stopping accepting new songs once they reach 500 MB in total). This depends of how much diskspace the server has and how much donations admins receive to keep the site online and add extra space (see front page for donation button).

Here are the upload forms for original works and the one for video game covers. The music download section requires a forum account to be opened.

News / Lua for AFX, Grammer, Zelda 68K revival, EpicFail8x and Luna update
« on: September 24, 2011, 10:51:43 pm »
Some notable programs that were missed by Omnimaga news came out in the past few weeks. First of all, on the AFX/Graph 100 calculator series, a compatible version of Lua released in 2010 has been updated on September 6th 2011. The newest version is available here. Since the AFX series has been discontinued for years, a Casio FX-9860G series version is currently in the works. Could this mean a PRIZM version afterward? (The Prizm has a similar processor as the FX-9860G).

Secondly, Xeda112358 has released a new programming language called Grammer this Summer, available here. It is interpreted and can be programmed in the BASIC editor, although it is almost as fast as assembly in most cases. She recently got interviewed about it by ticalc.org. A topic about it is available on Omnimaga.

Besides that, someone is attempting the revival of a long time cancelled Zelda project for the 68K series. Originally started by Jason Ho in 2003 (and featured on ticalc.org news), it has been taken over by Kyle Ingalsbe recently. An updated demo was released a few weeks ago. Hopefully it is finished before 2019.

Also, as posted on TI-Planet and brandonw.net recently, the first modified boot code has been ran on the new TI-84 Pocket.Fr calculator model. A while ago, it was discovered that those calcs ran Boot 1.03, couldn't be downgraded below OS 2.55MP and had a 2048 bit RSA key protection. To downgrade further, you needed to use a program called Flashy, by Brandon Wilson, which allowed you to replace the boot code with an older official one, such as 1.00 or 1.02. This got rid of the extra 6 minutes waiting time during OS validation by Boot 1.03. However, a few weeks ago BrandonW pushed things even further, with his program EpicFail, which allows you to modify Boot 1.03 itself. This means running unnoficial boot codes is now possible on your TI-84 Plus series calculator!

Finally, ExtendeD has updated Luna not too long ago, now allowing the creation of Lua TNS files without having to use the official tools by Texas Instruments. Starting in OS 3.0.2, TI added a protection that prevented TNS files made with unnoficial tools from being ran. The new version is available here. More info are also available in both French and English.

Since a lot of stuff were missed from news lately, maybe more are also available on our forums and other ones. Despite the TI community having slowed down over last September (especially the TI-Nspire scene), there are still plenty of projects being worked on and some major breakthroughs. Do not hesitate to give feedback on people's projects or announce your own on the forums!

Music Showcase / The Game that we Lost (song)
« on: September 22, 2011, 02:32:05 am »
The Game that we Lost

Another electronic power metal song and my longest so far. I got a lot of inspiration from Sonata Arctica and the song is similar in style to Tales of the Knight of the Moon.

EDIT I have no clue why it doesn't add the description automatically in the post but it does for other people... ???

Other Calculators / Your calculator collection
« on: January 25, 2011, 04:33:32 am »
It would be cool if people shared what calculator models they have and possibly pics. Here's a pic of my collection below [troll]with the vastly superior models in the last row :P[/troll]. I'll post when I got them later.

As you can see, I have about half as many as BrandonW and KermMartian. :P I lost my TI-81, though. :(

Axe / Online Axe command index
« on: December 18, 2010, 03:24:54 pm »
Per request, I decided to put an online version of the command index on the forums. This is for those who don't want to re-download/open the Axe folder everytime they want to check for a command in particular. I will update what follows when a new version of Axe comes out.

Due to forum software limitations with special charsets, some things will appear weird below, such as >Frac and the ° symbol. There's nothing that can be done to prevent this, as editing the post changes those characters back to weird codes.

EDIT (Eeems): Put an iframe to a hosted version of it. ( http://axe.eeems.ca/Commands.html )
EDIT (Netham45): I made the iframe taller.

Art / Some random sprites by DJ Omnimaga
« on: June 24, 2010, 04:06:28 pm »
Here are almost all tiles and sprites that were used in Reuben Quest: Ev Awakening, Reuben Quest: The Lost Mirror and The Reign Of Legends 3. Note: For the 3 level grayscale monsters from Reuben serie, they were ripped from various games such as Lufia: The Fortress Of Doom, Final Fantasy II and III for the NES, Dragon Warrior serie, Metroid. Two enemy sprites were ripped from battle backgrounds in FFII or III I believe, or parts of a monster, then modified to make something new. The same was done with two of the battle backgrounds.

The ROL3 sprites are located at the bottom on left and right sides.

All that stuff was created/modified from December 2003 through January 2005.

Otherwise, everything else was done by me. Here they are below. Please give credits to the respective game and game company if you use sprites I converted and to myself if you use the sprites I drawn myself from scratch.
