News / Project Periodical - Edition 2
« on: January 01, 2015, 12:02:57 am »
Hello, and welcome to Project Periodical Edition 2! Instead of being semi-monthly and including z80 or non-z80 programs, this edition and all future editions will be on the 1st of every month and include projects of every platform, on every major, predominately english-speaking forum with a focus on TI. And also on CodeWalrus
What does this mean? Omnimaga, Cemetech, and CodeWalrus projects will all be listed here, in one place, with links to every thread on every site where the projects are hosted. Also this means no screenies in the thread due to the sheer number of projects being posted, sorry D:
Also projects made specifically for contests and joke projects/programs are automatically disqualified from being in Project Periodical for space's sake (read: pimath is lazy and there are a ton of Contest #13 entries).

Now that that is out of the way, to the projects:

TI Z80 / Will [Insert Monochrome Program or App] run on the CSE?
« on: November 20, 2014, 10:21:36 am »
If it is for the monochrome calcs and is not TI-Basic, the answer is flat out no, and it's not because the creator of the project hates you. It's TI's fault.

First of all, the include files for the calculators are different. Completely different, which makes the assembled code for the monochromes impossible to run on the CSE and visa versa. Axe gets compiled on calculator, with the same include file as the monochrome assemblers, so Axe programs can't run on the CSE.

Second of all, even if that weren't the case, the LCD drivers on the CSE are too slow to run most monochrome programs, in addition to the resolution being different.

Third of all, there currently is no way to emulate the monochromes on the CSE. Sorry D:

TI-Basic programs will run (for the most part), but the graphics routines might be off (and will be off most of the time).

News / Project Periodical - Edition 1 (part 1: z80) (Nov 1-14, 2014)
« on: November 14, 2014, 04:45:21 pm »
So like tifreak and Kerm are doing on Cemetech, I'm going to chronicle active projects periodically. Halfway through each month, I will post about z80 projects from the time of the last z80 periodical until the time of new one (although this one starts on the 1st of the month, instead of the 15th of last), and at the end of each month, I will post about the nspire projects from the time of the last Nspire periodical until the time of new one. This keeps things uncluttered and easier to do on my part.
And if the admins/staff think this is good enough maybe even I can get this on the front page
For a project to be placed in these articles, there must have been a project update within the period specified in the topic title.

So I had this idea, and I'll need help to get it moving. It's called "Hack This Game"

Basically it is a game to teach C to people who don't know C. The engine would be a limited IDE in which the player can only edit certain files until he/she has completed an objective in the aforementioned files. The objectives themselves will be about changing the game/IDE to do a certain task or act a certain way. Basically, a game about hacking the game source itself. Very meta, I know :P

Good idea? Bad idea? Want to help? Comment!

39
This is a thing now. BEHOLD: https://github.com/pimathbrainiac/nReuben

So far you have to compile yourself, and it's just a screentest, but all the sprites are in there, and as soon as I get the maps copied down, I'll begin work on the RPG engine. Wish me luck!

General Discussion / [unofficial] Omnimaga Music Contest 2014!
« on: August 08, 2014, 10:33:58 pm »
With all the great music writers on Omni, I was surprised to see a lack of music contests in the contests board. That being said, I don't think this will be a thing to conflict with other contests, but considering most of the music writers here are not in Cemetech Contest 12, this will start immediately, and end before the month is out. So without further ado: the rules and description!

The Unofficial Omnimaga Music Contest 2014! Theme: "Chill"

The Challenge:
Write a song, of any length and any instrumentation, that represents the theme "Chill"
Songs can be done using any program, recorded live, or both.
Songs can be instrumental or have lyrics, if you wish.
Users may submit as many songs as they like.

Rules:
Songs must be original.
Songs must have more than one voice, though. Just a melody does not qualify as a piece of music here, sorry.
Songs writers must post in this topic that they are competing by Saturday, August 16 at 11:59 EDT
Completed songs must be posted in this topic, either as an attachment in the form of an mp3 file (I know it's not lossless, but this is in order to stay under 1 MB easily) or as a link to the song in any format playable by VLC for download and/or for streaming.
Completed songs must be posted in this topic by Saturday, August 30 at 11:59 EDT

Community Votes:
Once a song is posted in this topic, I will link to that post with the username and song title beside it here.
Rankings will be decided by community votes in a poll attached to this topic once the first song has been submitted. Users will be allowed to change their vote.
Users may not vote for themselves. Doing so will result in a disqualification of all songs submitted by said user.

The Theme:
The theme is "Chill."
This means that the song must be able to make someone listen to it and say: "This is chill," or something of that nature.
An example song I made (and this is not the best example, but it is an example nonetheless) is here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_rRGhX27sY-N2lBUGZ6QzZDdlU/edit?usp=sharing

I will, in fact compete in this competition, since I have no input but a single vote, as much as anyone else, but not with that song.

Good luck, and have fun!

Music Showcase / With Fire Comes Light - pimathbrainiac
« on: August 04, 2014, 05:16:55 pm »
Well, this one took a bit of time for me to complete, and soundcloud is currently being a poo, so I'll post the wav version on Google Drive here, being the finalized version of the song in the WIP topic.
So this one started as an attempt at prog metal that failed epicly, so I revamped the melody, changed the voicing, and made it prog rock. I will put a video on youtube with the score sometime within the week, as well as put it on soundcloud.

Music Showcase / Pimath's Theme Song Remixes/Arrangements!
« on: July 30, 2014, 07:40:08 am »
This is a topic where I will post remixes/arrangements to theme songs I like. First up is Gravity Falls. (Great show. Season 2 starts August 1st. I'm really excited!)

So I call this power metal because I don't know what to really call it. It's some form of metal, and based on the background, I call it power metal. :P
It's some sort of hard rock/metal thing. okay?

Anyways, I made a remix/arrangement of the theme from Gravity Falls. Season 2 starts August 1st. I'M SO EXCITED.

So here's a youtube vid with the arrangement: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6ik80OEnxc

I might add a link to a pdf later. Maybe.

Notice that I am not Raylin, and that there is [Unofficial] in the title. Also as in the title, this will be in tournament format, instead of the old format. I thought these were a really good idea, and so I'm going to pick these up for the sake of distracting me from some particular things going on in my life atm.

Spoiler For Raylin's Original Post:
CAGE MATCHES

Have you the nerve to try?
Have you the need for speed?
Can you crank out quality code in no time at all?

Put your reputation on the line and step up to the plate.
This, good sirs, is the true test of coding.

Hello, Omnimagician. Welcome to the Cage Matches.
This is where your mettle will be pitted again another strong competitor whose wants to prove his worth as well.
The rules of this are simple: Make a game of said theme within the time limit.

For starters, you must send me a PM with your programming languages so I can add you to the roster.

Every (other) week, starting in October, two random people will be the contestants for that Cage Match.
A contestant has exactly 24 hours to reply. If a contestant does not reply, another contestant will be picked.
When both contestants have done so, the deadline is set a week or two from the top of the hour.
(Top of the hour means that if the PM is replied to at 8:23, the deadline is a week from now at 9. All times are in CDT (GMT -5.)).
The theme will be picked at random.
The language will be picked at random.
If the language is C or ASM, some code must be sent inside of the PM to assure that a contestant isn't over his head.
The result of the contest will be based a poll that the community votes on. (I will also be casting my vote.)
The winner gets fame, prestige, and a userbar.

That is all.

Make the very best game you can think of in exactly 30 days.

Rules:

*This must be for the TI-83+.
*There cannot be a shred of Hybrid BASIC.
*No Axe subroutines.
*No ASM (unless it is on this page). Yes, I know that there is a loophole there.
*No late entries.
*No exceptions. At all.
*Submit to me ([email protected]) <- reverse the 'moc'.
*You cannot vote for your own entry.

Protips:
*Try not to make clones of other games.
*IF YOU SUBMIT A WRFNG PROGRAM, I WILL STAB YOU.

Same rules apply as well. This starts when over 50% of the people accept after the 20th.

So instead of the exact same rules and categories, I'm going to modify this a bit.
Here is my (slightly ripped off) post for this (unofficial) reboot.

For starters, you must send me a PM with your programming languages (you can do more than 1) so I can add you to the roster.

Valid categories/languages are as follows:

8x grayscale calcs:
  • Axe
  • Pure Basic
  • Asm/C
84+CSE
  • Pure Basic
  • Hybrid Basic
  • Asm
Nspire calcs:
  • Ndless C/C++/Asm
  • Basic
  • Lua

In August (August 3rd, to be precise) (August 31st, so nothing conflicts with Cemetech Contest #12), a single-elimination bracket will be posted in this topic/post, along with which contestants will be competing that week (one pair per category). The bracket will be made by me, using a very subjective ranking system.
Each week a pair in each category from the bracket will be chosen to compete, along with a subject for the week.
The subject is for each week, not each week/category. All categories will have to program the same subject matter in their respective languages/platforms.
Contestants will be PM'd, and have 24 hours to reply, if a contestant does not reply, the one who replied moves on, as if there were a bye.
When both contestants in each category have replied, the deadline is set a week from the top of the hour.

The results each week will be based on a poll that the community votes on. (I will also be casting my vote.) Thou shalt not vote for thineself. I will also be competing in a few categories.
The winners get fame, prestige, and cookies, sent in bytes over the internet.

That is all.
